Who Inspires Your Art.

So I was thinking of who or what inspires your art.

Here is what I mean, I started dating,( 3 months ago ), this wonderful guy, he is kind and considerate and, ( ok enough with how I can go on about him, lol ) thoughtful. We were sitting on the balcony watching the sunset just over the house tops, and he says to me how much he loves sunsets, I too love them I replied. Which started me thinking as to how would I make or do sunsets in my art.

I took out my paint and…

Rare choco mail - from Katerina Nikoltsou

New developments in Haptic World. I am honored to get this rare piece of choco glam from Katerina, number 212 of her project 365. I think this greek chocolate is way too rare to be eaten :-)) and it looks great on the card, so I think I shouldn't be too greedy this time.

Pencil shavings, what a fab idea, Katerina. It must be hell to get them glued on the card though...…

Six year old Mail Artist

Young Bella, who lives down the street, recently heard me talking to her mom one day about mail art...I was very enthusiastic as I described what it is...Bella, age six, never let on she had big plans for my mailbox...

Feeling blue, I spent the better part of a day last week at a friend's place. When I got through the gate at home at dusk, I noticed several little bursts of pink flowers adorning my mailbox...as I got closer, I saw two envelopes and a bag of goodies from mother nature:…

Why I am not an Intellectual

Tainted Conceptualism: a conversation with Hassan Khan

May 20, 2011

7 p.m., free admission

We assume that moving away from both self-reflexivity and social representation, leads to pure formalism. Hassan Khan confronts this notion through his use of medium, presentation formats, and the creation of partially flawed conceptual systems. Khan will join Sohrab Mohebbi in conversation to consider the play of conceptual…

Seasonal metaphor - from David Stafford

Spring is a bit sad on this side of the lawn, and it is well known that sadness unleashes all kinds of metaphors. This one is by Liu Tsung-yuan and translated by... Mitzi Gaynor? You mean Mitzi Gaynor the dancer? :-)) Who would have thought?!...

Thank you David, nice combination of text and illustration! And funny as usual...…

Haptic Werewolf goes Metallic

Got this haptic card from Erni. It doesn't show in the picture, but it is silver. I think Lucky Lucy is the actual Rocket, but I'm not sure. Thank you Ernie!

Text Collage from KDJ

I love this collage with the muted colors and so many different layers of text. She sent me "happy hints for a safe and enjoyable summer" such as what to do in case you are in a stampede of bulls and what to do if you come across a bee hive. Thank you KDJ!

Trashpo direct from Helen Amye's Studio

The pic doesn't do it justice, but amazingly this postcard made of handmade paper, arrived completely in tact. As she said, if it had gotten banged up it would only have enhanced it as it is trashpo. There are asemics in here and a little bit of everything. Everything on top looks like what you would use to make handmade paper. Thank you…

David Stafford's Wild Life and beautiful drawing

Clean simple lines and a watercolour wash make this a very pleasing image! I like it a lot.

And the wildlife in David's garden is far more interesting than the monkeys in our KwaZulu gardens... his water buffalo lives near the birdbath.

New mail-Art: Mail call Day 5/18/11

Hello everybody.

I am just wowed every time I find more IUOMA mail-art in our Studio's PO Box come Mail Call Day. This is truly a fascinating group of people.

This time out, there are several artists from our ranks whose works it is my pleasure to post here, and who certainly deserve a round of applause. One of these is Valentine Mark Herman, whose latest work came to the Studio mailbox during a flurry of activity, and thus had to wait. Today's bright grouping fits well with…
