Six year old Mail Artist

Posted on May 20, 2011 at 6:09pm 2 Comments

Young Bella, who lives down the street, recently heard me talking to her mom one day about mail art...I was very enthusiastic as I described what it is...Bella, age six, never let on she had big plans for my mailbox...

Feeling blue, I spent the better part of a day last week at a friend's place. When I got through the gate at home at dusk, I noticed several little bursts of pink flowers adorning my mailbox...as I got closer, I saw two envelopes and a bag of goodies from mother nature:…

Strange feeling

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 7:42am 3 Comments

I'm new to sharing my art with other people....Mail art gave me the opportunity to do it anonymously....Ive been looking at the Postmarked 2011 site, admiring the artwork...I am not overcoming the fear that if I send something in it will disappoint someone. I wonder if this is an uncommon thing or just because Im new to showing people what I do.

Hi, Lynda

The artist Jean-Francois Aillet invites you to collect your sample of sand from a moraine, from next to a waterfall or beside a river, along the shore of a lake or a stream, in a desert or on the border of an ocean. One should not, however, send him sand from a construction site. You are asked to document your collection of the material with a photo, taken as you are pouring the sand into a container. For an example, kindly visit his home page at www.aillet.com . English : http://www.aillet.com/traductions/anglais.htm

See you to take part in this international project.

A Crocked MonSewer writes:

Bonjour Lynda Jo! Many thanks indeed for the lovely Eagle (?) painted envelope you sent me. It has a 'Return to sender, not deliverable to address, unable to forward' label on the back of it, dated 09/16/11 (did you put it there, or did the Post Office?) BUT it DID get here safely.

Also thanks for the latter. (1) And for the explanation about your love of PS's (2). Trés drole! (3) and (4).

Also, and very importantly, please thank Belle for her drawings, story and flower. It's a pleasure to be in contact with both of you.

I'll be sending something back -- and ask you to forward part of it to young belle -- but it might take me a few days to find something appropriate.

I hope that the Bear has gone from your head now.

Regards, Val (6)

(1) I like footnotes.

(2) Footnotes to PS's are rare

(3) This is French for (5)

(4) I once wrote an article for a journal in which the footnotes were longer than the subject I was supposed to be addressing

(5) Another excuse for a footnote.

(6) Whom you cannot return to sender.
