My profile picture stickers - from Carla Cryptic

Back to blogging and mailing!

This is an envelope I received before the holidays from Carla Cryptic and it contained... my own profile picture stickers! How sweet, really. I like what you did with this picture, Carla, I will use them for sure. Thanks for taking the time to be so creative!…

Taped wishes (project 365 nr 23) - from Katerina Nikoltsou

Holiday greetings from Katerina Nikoltsou! This is number 23 of project 365. Still such a long way to go... I am really admiring the stamina of the "365 people", I could never take on such work and stick to it. …

À très bientôt!

Is it that time of the year again? Oh dear, time passes so quickly. I am going back to Alsace for a couple of weeks, leaving sushi and chopsticks behind and expecting some good old choucroute and sausages. And maybe escargots...

I would like to thank all of you for sending me such wonderful mail. These few months at IUOMA have been a blast, I met so many…

The circles of my (mice's) mind - from Cheryl Penn

This title must sound rather puzzling to you, but let me try to explain. A few months ago when I just met Cheryl she asked me what (on earth) I was doing in Japan. I told her a little bit about my job which, in a very small nutshell, consists of drawing circles around mouse brain cells after they have been in a square or in a round box. A tiny drop in the huge sea of the research going on in the field of learning and memory. I think we are both fascinated by the way memory is encoded in our…

Budget goodie bag - from Jennie Hinchcliff

I met Jennie at the Tokyo Art Book Fair last summer, where she had a stand. This was also my first encounter with art books, and my fist encounter with mail art. What can I say, I fell in love. I owe Jennie a lot, without her I wouldn't be aware of this very special world of mail art, and she is a truly nice person and a talented artist.

The (plastic) envelope she sent me cracked me up. It is a traditional japanese household budget envelope. Each month one can write how much one spent…

Advent goodies - from Susanna Lakner (Planet Susannia)

I have landed on Planet Susannia, yeeey! I have been admiring Susanna's work on the various IUOMA blogs, I find it very cool, she is such a talented collagist and stamp designer. A true artist.

Those are the first artist trading cards that I got. I think I'll be making some in return for Susanna, they are quite inspiring, I like working with this…

On the wings of the wind - from Cheryl Penn

The wind has been bringing me fabulous things. Things that most of the time leave me speechless. It's true that mail between South Africa has proven to be anything but on the wings of the wind, but it is so worth the wait.…

An asemic island - from Karen Champlin

I commented on Cheryl's blog the other day about how much I like the asemic world and how much beautiful art was coming out of it. It's a strange feeling, something not unlike jealousy. Like wishing one had done that piece oneself. And I feel like this with Karen's asemic writing too. When I saw her first piece I thought that there was a very Japanese Katakana touch to it, something in the purity and simplicity of the lines maybe.… Continue

An early winter sunset - from Katerina Nikoltsou

A piece of Greek beauty arrived in my mailbox the other day. A big slice of warm and luscious Greek sunset. And I should add, fragrant (I'm guessing cinnamon this time?). The painting is a perfect dégradé of orange in thick brush strokes. Wouldn't it be great to sip a tea at a table outside a café in front of the sea, best seat of the theater? I actually feel like I am there, in Thessaloniki, witnessing the sun… Continue

Sugar for my mule (braille card) - from Bifidus Jones

I can't believe I nearly missed the braille script on Bifidus's postcard. I was looking at it for several days without noticing anything. I even read Karen Champlin's blog post about a braille card she got from Bifidus, but it only struck me now. I don't know if you can see it, it is very subtly haptic and maybe only meant to be explored by fingers. And since this is Bifidus he placed it on a sea of wavelets for an even stronger… Continue

1/2 puzzle envelopes - return to Ahmet Demir

The deal when you get Ahmet's puzzle envelopes is to send him back two other envelopes he added in the mail. The envelopes are his own design and will be matched with the other half of the puzzle, being sent back to him from yet another part of the world.

I decorated this one with cherry blossom rubber stamps I am making for my new year's cards. But... I realized only after scanning that I placed the tanuki stamp so close to the lady's boobies! Horny tanuki, this one. I just hope I didn't… Continue

Big time flâneur the Crimson G has landed

This was a very much awaited envelope. In fact I had lost all hope of ever seeing the face of Cheryl's Giant. Do you know how long He has been on the road for? Three months! Where has He been all this time? Oh well, I guess they didn't call Him a flâneur for nothing, there must be an abundance of things to see between South Africa… Continue
