Spring, very soon - from Emmy Verschoor

This is not the title Emmy gave to her card but it is how I feel when I look at it. The promise of something good. Maybe I just want to get out of this winter? :-)) Regardless, I think she has a great technique with blotting paper, the result is always very delicate, with soft blending, very beautiful. I'm very happy to finally hold a true Emmy Verschoor, thank you Emmy!

le mur noir est une créature de la nuit. l'éclairage de la voiture brûlée habite la journée. nous avons tous deux faire des siestes fréquentes

It's alright, Dw, CB can handle Tender Button, piece of cake.... she 's worried about your lack of sleep though.

La lampe voiture de couleur sombre conduit la pauvre fille de plus en plus égaré. Ou-t-elle le conduire? C'est au delà de toute raison maintenant. Le mur sombre attend patiemment que le temps quand elle va récupérer sa santé mentale.

Very visual, yes, and a lot of imagery. I just ordered it on amazon. Some reviews made me laugh. Some say "Ugh. When I read them, I want to tear every last hair out of my skull." ;-)) I guess it does that to some people.

"Tender Buttons" is the Acid Test. Many people say: "This is b___ s___" and that's the end of it. I can't help but appreciate it for the beauty of the language itself - sort of asemic in a way - although it does have a content and structure. But it is language about the beauty of language - so, yes, it would be MinXus for that reason. And - because Gertrude Stein was so devoted to art - I think it is about art too. Notice all the color imagery? It is, in a sense, a visual poem. Yet, while we are exchanging compliments, I do envy you for your native language. It must certainly be one of the most beautiful on earth, IMHO.

(TB was neglected for a long time, and with the rise of postmodernism became a canonized text. Actually, essential reading.)

I think it should be the official MinXus poem. I think it's wonderful. English is not my first language but it's by far my favorite one. Pieces of writing like that are a gem, thanks for bringing it up!

Glad you found it!  It's well-known, to some anyway, and has led to a great deal of mischief - a good text to know in these waters. Given that English is not your first language, I was concerned you would not know what to make of it: obviously it is the start of some other language entirely. "A Carafe..." is from the section "Objects," which I like very much. Not that anyone really has a last word on it - but sewing, textile, fabric is a consistent image that runs throughout. Glad you like it - Gertrude certainly preferred the French to Oakland, California - which has improved vastly since here days there, BTW.  Thanks CB!

I didn't know the full quote, I like it even more now! Perfect for MinXus.
