Mail-Artist since:: 1974 or there abouts. I was sick of the postal service and wanted to get them pissed off.

Why I am involved in Mail-Art:: I love the open and unpretentious quality of the people who are involved. The artwork is delicious. It takes off in every direction imaginable without boundaries. The geographical dispersion of the artists is also an exciting element.

ONE HAND IS DRAWING,THE OTHER IS WRITING

My first introduction to the members - aside from joining some groups - was to post a picture of my desk with my mail art (which some of you receive) which is under construction.

The second is an enticing opening to a story, "Tethered" told in the first person by Nathan who is befriended by a novice in the convent who has some serious mental problems.

Tethered, a short story.

Finally, I have something different to tell you: this story about Marta. I will tell it quickly because I may not get the opportunity to write again. I have a small notebook in which to scribble – and hopefully I can smuggle it out.

I am here, caged, left alone and prepared to die. I have been in this jail cell for six days. It is cold and wretched. A hint of light comes in high on the concrete walls. The silence is disorienting. I keep from being restless by marking the incremental passage of time across the wall high above my head, and by scribbling these notes.

I am guilty. I have confessed. The police inspector knows the story – though he seems quite skeptical about the details. We will investigate and verify, he said. That’s reasonable. He rubbed his chin languorously while I talked, asking me occasionally to repeat things and commenting on my pallor. You look as if you need some sun, which I took for professional solicitousness. It is not likely that I will get much sun in here.

These sobering events have transpired within the year, yet I strain against the flicker of recall. Marta will not appreciate that I have confessed. I have only to wait for whatever is next.
