This is a place to explore all things trashpo (Trash Poetry)and found objects. Trashpo is 1) economical 2) environmentally responsible and 3) challenging. It's a great way to repurpose all the trash that our planet is buried in!

"If trashpo has taught me anything its that every windblown street corner and cyclone fence is a veritable Dick Blick of free art materials."
Ya'll I haven't done any mail art lately as I just can seem to find the creativity for it. I've been in a long derth. But I do collect some odd bits of paper that I enjoy. I am an educational consultant and visit schools. Here's a great news sheet I…Continue

That is so cool. My postman surprised me the other day with a beautiful wooden postbox to replace my crappy one. He didn't say anything, just handed it over with a smile: but he clearly thought my mail deserved a better box! My postman and I speak different languages so most of our communication is just via smiles - but the presentation of the special box to me speaks volumes: more than words could achieve, I think!.
One will expect the USAPOSTAL services would be glad of us mail artists. Soon we may be the only ones to make use of snail mail facilities and postal employees will loose their jobs. That is the opinion of my friendly postman, Kevin, who also tells me that my post makes his day. He is beginning to get mail art exclusive for him, addressed to my address! Indeedy!
I'm thinking some kind of interview is necessary here to get at the truth.Ive always gotten to know my mailmen personally mostly as a result of mail art and their interest/curiosity/fascination with the weird shit I send and receive. I tend to think it brightens and adds interest to an otherwise mundane job. I'm sure if it DOES create extra work somewhere down the food chain, it is not welcomed. Mainly things not being machinable and having to be done manually (gasp! the horror!) but I have found extra postage grants leniency
19.11.14 Dare Ms. Lucky Pierre, ...well, glad to hear that yours is such a positive experience ( The name "Lucky Pierre"obviously has meaning). The World of Mail Art is such a huge monumental , complex phenomenon that I'm sure it involves multiple stories. There is certainly room for different circumstances. No doubt that yours has to do with personal charm & the quality of the works that are centered about you. ..continued best to you, Richard C.
As a Boy Scout (yes, I am an Eagle Scout) in 1970 my troop toured the local post office sub station and we witnessed the sorting of mail by USPS employees, sitting at a machine and looking through a diascope. We were told they were looking for the zip code so they could punch the right sorting button. They were given 5 minute breaks every 15 minutes of doing this task. Maybe that is why Richard C. points with an arrow to at the very least, the address. Millions of pieces of mail and only 2 eyes for the rest of your life. I have only respect for the mail workers around the world, as do most of my compatriots on this platform.
18.11.14 Dare Fellow DKult followers, For what it's worth...my two cents on the "Nixie" business": For the past year or so....periodically I too, have had envelopes & postcards returned by the USPS. I view the process to be more or less as the same ole" Return to Sender" gesture of yesteryear by our currently stressed friendly men & women of the "door-to-door uniform". Upon occasion it is indeed the result of some error on my part( i.e. incorrectly addressed or not clearly presented, not enough postage, etc.), but I also suspect that it is also because of some sort of new philosophical concept & a managerial decision having to do with moving the mail more efficiently & cracking down on odd ball mailing practices--at least, an attempt to dissuade & discourage such activity.......(As if Mail Artists were some sort of serious problem in the USPS .The USPS has problems alright, but we mail artists are mere pip-squeeks in the problem section).......Please try to understand , the guys & gals at the P.O. (like most folks)just want do their job & get paid. Generally(there are always exceptions to the rule) they are not interested(nor should they be) in any aesthetic implications involved with the envelope or stamps & collage as an art form, etc. & they don't have the time or even want to spend their time attempting to decipher or locate an address that the mailing machines could not interpret....(I've long suspected that each & every piece of mail art is some sort of distraction or interruption for the average postal employee....The easiest response is to "nip-the-stuff-in-the bud"... & send it back to where it came from. I boldly suggest that we mail artists make sure that we know what we are doing (i.e. check the address , check the postage, limit the possibility of return , no confrontation, & quietly pop it back into the mail). As mail artists we are not interested in breaking official rules just bending them into maybe better shape & form. Ave uh nez dae. Richard Canard
I get the Charles Manson reference. DK. (Over on FB DK has everyone riveted to a car she is stealing.)
But wow, Richard Canard in the Trashpo group. That is historic!
Technically, Richard would be in DKULTIL with DK. But I guess there can be "independents" like those of us in college who didn't pledge a frat or sorority.
Or are we going to find out DK was in a sorority at Northwestern?
RC is always an honorary member of DKULTNY, especially since meeah has been re-assigned to New Jersey.
thetrash n pass, like my not working space bar, hasa mindofits' own. it will continue creating or uncreating itself apparently. only timewill tell--or maybe theNixiewill
