Bonjour Luis Filipe, and welcome!

"There are no boring postcards!", you write.

I agree. Like any sort of art it's all in the eye of the beholder. So, I might think a particular postcard is Boring, but you might not.

And vice versa.

But if you beleive that there are no such things as Boring Postcards, why are you in the Boring Postcards Group?

But, please don't leave us!

Let me give you a quote from Tom Philips who has produced two excellent books on Postcards, 'We are the People", and "The Postcard Century".

In the latter (and, I suspect, as a commentary on Martin Parr's works) he writes, "...what are often called boring postcards are in fact quite the opposite in their visionary distillation of life's absolutes".

Voilà!

Here is an actual historical "Wish you were here" from 1957

The dining room not on a postcard? My postcards are 'real' ones, not on-line ones. Val

Thanks Mick.

Divided road? ME! I have 2 Boring Postcards with roundabouts, and tis will go well with them. (I also have 2 books on British roundabouts)

A carpet cleaner? ME, again! This is a new 'genre' -- interesting.

Prison dining room? ME, again, again! I posted "Wish you were here..." last night, with a postcard of a Youth Correction Facility (sic). This will go well with that.

Hoping I can get 3 out of 3.

Reegards, Val

This is just a shot of a divided road, who is interested in this?

A carpet cleaner?

Hi Valentine Mark,

Thanks for welcoming me to this group.

I agree about the postcards I posted. The third one is, sadly, a little interesting.  I actually found the images online and don't have the original cards. But I am looking for a suitably boring postcard and I hope to mail it to you soon.

Thanks Mick, and welcome to the Group.

The first two postcards are suitably Boring. (The third is rather 'touristy'.)

If you don't want them, can I have them for my Exhibitions, please?

"Having a lovely time. Wish you were here". NOT!!

On holiday abroad, I used to buy a load of touristy postcards, find a bar, and write on every single one of them "Having a lovely time. Wish you were here." (Sometimes there would be a 3rd sentence, such as "The hotel is good/lousy", "The weather is good/lousy", "The beerwine is good/lousy", etc.)

Well here are 4 Boring Postcards that reminded me of "We're having a lovely time. Wish you were here."*
Or NOT as you will see.

Number 1: a Youth Detention Center in Holland. ("My cell is the 3rd on the right")

Number 2: a French Military Cemetery (My grave is the 4th on the left, 15th row")

Number 3: a Swiss Sanatorium ("I'll feel better tomorrow when they let the air out of this sausage thing")

Number 4: a Dutch hospital ("Wish you were here. Wish the other people who were here in these beds were still here, but....")

I'm glad I was not there. Or there. Or there. Or there.

("Having a lovely time etc..." is also the title of a song by the Who)

Thanks again Katerina.

There is a fine line -- that I am trying to determine betwee a Boring post(card and a 'touristy' postcard. I am not sure where this one belongs.

Regards, Val
