Too bad about Manson, needless to say, and clearly the Beatles were close to their end--people knew it was coming then--but I loved (and love) The White Album. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is right up there among my favorites, and "Rocky Raccoon" was a winner, to name just two.

At Bard we had a white-covered bootlegged version of an album, and it had to be of The White Album but I'm only 90% sure. Wiki doesn't seem to mention that aspect of it (quick perusal), but it had everyone very excited about the real thing. In those days I don't think many were very aware of the artists responsible for creating the album covers, some of them really spectacular. Case in point, I'd never even heard of Richard Hamilton until you brought him up! I hope (and think) such artists get more attention nowadays.

I looked up Richard Hamilton, and he was a well-known pop artist.

The White Album, of course. was the tension album. None of them could agree on anything, including the cover. Nothing was a good solution. As seems to have been the case with that group consistently, near-disaster resulted in innovation.

It did do that, didn't it--who was accustomed to blank-anything then? (or since, much of the time). I loved it and its boldness. Thanks DVS, I'll look him up tonight. That he had anything to do with a Duchamp retrospective at the Tate is big news in this house even today.

The artist was Richard Hamilton. Wik says he did a Duchamp retrospective at the Tate about the time he designed the cover. It definitely brought the idea of minimalism to a VERY large audience. RIP Richard Hamilton.

Really? That's strangely saddening! It was such a break-down-the-door cover at the time. Everyone will forever know what it is, The White Album.

Erni is just too clever. So happy you found our bookbinding discussion enlightening, haha!

No real commentary intended, although what Erni says is clever. I'm new at Trashpo walks and am finding a huge amount of scratched lottery tickets.

Beetles & Beatles in Hamburg. "I read the news today, oh boy." The artist who designed the famous White Album cover died!

Great trashpo DVS--lotto and anti-depressants? scratch off and birth control? I love how you scan this stuff

Would DVS or Erni care to interpret DVS's comment for the dense? (Yep.)
