TREES

A group devoted to the art of trees: free medium. Without trees the world would be dead and a place of disaster. With trees the world can tackle global warming. Hug a tree and you hug the earth, you hug yourself and your neighbors. Without trees, no love!

Without love, no trees.

A sequel to the mail art project SIGNS and STONES and TREES (of 1998).

Guido Vermeulen started this group. After his death the IUOMA members keep it alive with posting photos and drawings of TREES in memory of Guido.

THE MAGIC OF TREES

Dear Guido,

I love trees!

Trees are so good to us, giving us oxygen to breathe, cleaning our water, providing shade in their life and shelter in their death.

They give us this paper, the pencil I write words with, and the envelope I painted.

Trees are magical, like all plants, magical little things that grow into magical big thins that are essential to so many of us other magical life forms in this amazing, magical universe.

TREES ARE MAGIC.

When I am with trees, big and small, I wonder like a child.

I know the scientific explanations of their life cycles and the processes of their doings.

I have even listened to trees as recorded by a hydrophone as their cells thirsted for water.

Still, no amount of knowledge can evaporate the mist of awe and wonder I feel in the presence of trees.

Trees are our kindred.

They, too, are born to live. And born to die.

In between they are silent witnesses to the magic of the universe.

Happy Earth Day,

Very grateful I am to Alan Brignull, who sent me this poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins. Which is a bit a comfort: consoling, to know that also 137 years ago people cared for trees.

Thank you very much. Alan!

While in other places autumn colours are shining, here doomsday has passed. My small requiem for the 23 beautiful large Poplars who have been slaughtered 'thanks' to our local authorities. The poplars are no more.

In the picture above you see remains of 8 of them, but in the past days even also the trunks/roots have disappeared.

Bye sweet homes to flora and fauna, bye dear homes to the birds..

The two pictures below I made in 2012. These owls used to live her until few weeks ago..

:-(

This Tree was planted near our house in Breda about 11 years ago....

While in many places we can enjoy the colours of trees in autumn, in our city they're doing it again. Kill a row of 23 beautiful 50 years old trees... (and replace it in fiture by 21 tiny sticks (trees-to-be).

Tree killer in action..

On the ground you can see the first assassinated poplar, a week ago. Meanwhile - in last week - the row of poplars behind the trunks on the ground, has vanished completely. Grmbl.

Also in neighbouring cities people think they have to eliminate trees. This one I found yesterday in Amsterdam, with an other victim accompanying some ten meters from this one:

How about your cities, your countries?
Do the authorities take care for trees or do they consider them as 'things', instead of living creatures, our lungs, animals' home, etcetera?

no frost, no cold yet.
