I just reorganized my artspace to make more room for more works in progress. 1 Reply

I work on many pieces simultaneously - not just mail art: paper, mixed media, collage, panels- and I had run out of space to place incomplete work as it dries. So I built a storage rack with many shelves, shown here in the back corner. Now my…Continue

Here's my artspace today, about like it usually looks. Semi-controlled chaos.

It's sloppy. If I can take it, you can take it. Here are some parts, including two big mail arts I have on the wall (Guido's fabulous "Tabula Rasa" and David's handsome, insane 1976 campaign poster). The shelf wall has smaller ones hanging up, haven't shot that side yet. What a mess but I love it!

At the moment my artspace is quite tidy, or so I thought until i turned round from the computer table and saw my mail art table. I am taking photos and will post soon.

KDJ, rapidiographs clog and are temperamental. David, what's it like wrestling a squid? could you draw it with your radiograph and post it? Or, did the squid swim away with it?

Austin, so true. Yes, the Rapidograph was the premier ruling pen of his day, cursed and beloved of draftsmen. Now with AutoCad and Fine Line Markers the brand name recedes into history. But when the nozzle was clean and the ink was flowing there was nothing better for producing a great doodle.

My painting space for small and large envelopes in front of book cases, I need the input of other artistic creations

studio snooping. Love it. I'm with you. as the workspace gets smaller i go faster. Angie, are those 3 things on your desk staplers? And a paper cutter instead of an Xacto, brilliant.

A rapidograph is a pen with an extremely tiny tip, practically like a needle. That's the extent of my knowledge. Someone gave me one many years ago--pre-art--and I didn't have a clue what to do with it. I'm sure David does, even with tentacles.

Nice spaces, Katerina! I can't believe I've been here long enough to remember your summer studio, and what a gorgeous spot it is!

Close-ups would be great, and I like the idea of theme of the day or week or whatever. In the meantime I'll be posting (probably general) photos I just snapped an hour ago.

Isn't a rapidograph a pen, & if so, the squid's just being stingy with it's own ink!

Comment by David Stafford on March 27, 2012 at 6:45pm

I never say no to an extra helping tentacle.

I just wish for once you could see me trying to wrest control of the rapidograph from the clutches of the giant New Mexico squid. And don't get me started about the Smelt.
