Some people collect "Zippy" from the edge of postage stamp pages ;-)

And there were/are always US cancellation marks that remind one to ALWAYS USE  ZIP CODE!

Now maybe Val could explain the code at the bottom of UK mail, the 6-digits with both numbers and letters?

I like this, thanks Oh Boy. I do remember that little Zippy guy, but I don't remember Ethel singing that song in relation to Mr. Zippy. I do, however, remember the song (from a movie!)

ZIP = Zone Improvement Plan.

Mr Zip also know as ZIPPY, was friendly little postal letter carrier embraced by the public and did an amazing job of making ZIP Code usage commonplace. Mr. Zip’s theme song was “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah” sung by Ethel Merman. He appeared on several stamps, hundreds of stamp selvage and many post office publicity items from 1964 to 1986.

He was retired in 1986 when the Zip+4 campaign was introduced

Thanks Angie & Snooky. It's so bureaucratic spelled out!

To answer Vals query about postal codes in the U.S. The five digit code came about in 1963. Some marketing person probably came up with the name "ZIP CODE" but I haven't researched that. The additional 4 digits - the extended code - came about more recently and is supposed to direct the mail more specifically to a house, apartment, or post box. I like the words "Postal Code" better but they didn't ask for my input. And our system isn't always so zippy, if you know what I mean, but for the most part, it works.

Thank you, Angie...can't wait to see all the extras! xx

Might be able to send you a few more too, soon!

Now to continue to warn about "Pauline ATTA"...a real SPAMMER! And me thinks Ruud is already asleep as it is after midnight in Europe :-0

Glad the Chiquita stickers arrived, Angie. Now each one is "different", so they count as 3 stickers for your bingo! I am missing ONE...hard to find anything different, though there were "Bonita" bananas at the German supermarket today. And if Val sends me from France...perhaps I can complete my bingo soon! ;-)
