I love air mail stickers. I got a tin of adhesive stickers from my husband once that had replica stickers & used them all! Wish I'd scanned them so I could have replicated them myself on sticky paper. oh well. Thanks for posting Alan's image.

No, that's fine with me, Angie & Snooky. Here in Britain we still have the option of Air or Surface Mail for addresses outside Europe, so the stickers do mean something. I know some countries no longer offer surface mail, though. Print your own if you want to carry on using them!

In Britain, you don't have to use their labels, you can just write "Par Avion" on the envelope (French is the language of the Universal Postal Union; other languages are optional).

If this is of interest, I just found out that my local post office (Malaysia) no longer carries air mail labels. Instead, they will rubber stamp your letters.

So you think YOU have trouble with the delivery of your Mail Art?

The following article appeared in the UK press last weekend:

Letter arrives 62 years late, and empty”

A letter posted in Germany in 1951 has taken 62 years to reach Britain.

The half-open envelope was addressed to 'James Dunnill' at Missenden Abbey, Bucks, who was a warden at the abbey when it was used as an adult learning college.

The return address to Germany is a teacher training colleege which is now owned by the University of Flensburg.

An abbey spoksman said: 'No-one seems to know how it has suddently appeared.'

Staff want to trace relations of Mr Dunnill and the sender to find out what was meant to be inside the envelope.”

AUSTRALIA RELEASES FIRST 'VIDEO' STAMPS

This is not really Postal History, but it appeared in the UK 'Daily Telegraph' of 12/ix/2013, and I thought you might be interested in it:

"Australia's postal service has released a world-first 'video stamp' which allows people to send a 15-second video with their parcels. The new service allows senders to scan a coded stamp on their mail bag and record a message on their smartphone via an app, and then stick the stamp to their parcel. Recipients can view the message by scanning the message on their smartphone or tablet or by entering a code on the Australian Post website.

Australia Post said it had created 3 million of the stamps, which are fee and could be continued beyond Christmas. The stamps are available for viewing for 90 days after the package is received."

Roland Hill must be turning in his grave.
