Even though it makes sense that we can look on each others profiles, you may want to add your address here and any blogs or other accounts you want highlighted. This way it's in a closed environment and we all get to share.

What's your default? 7 Replies

Because my friend Matt asked me this the other night, I had to think about it. His is painting a blue sky and some clouds, then he waits to see if anything more comes. His skull for Skull Appreciation Day was just the blue sky & clouds cause…Continue

Who will you send  your first piece of mail to? I've been thinking about this a lot. Will it be someone in this group? Will it be one of the many mail artists I've exchanged MA with over the years? Will it be one of my letter writing friends, or my…Continue

Significant dates for the diary (some might say...) 41 Replies

McFloozy mentioned Quack Day in February and I had a message from Valentine Mark Hermann telling me of an anniversary in February. I figured that it would be best to put all the dates in one discussion, so anyone could contribute and we could all…Continue

Just been messing around making a badge - what do you think of this?

My travelling mailart kit is usually a pencil and a postcard pad, which is why I mainly write when I'm on the move.

I've added the makesomething 365 badge to the blog.

If anyone can make a badge for mailart365 I'd be eternally grateful!

Lovely, Ms Pannell. You are so very organized! Would that I were, but so it goes. I've been participating in mail art for a long time, and have a very unorganized little book of addresses of people I've sent to, and shows I've entered, or scraps of paper tucked in and about my studio. I recently got a little letter holder at, what we in the states call, a thrift shop, which to me feels very organized. My bits and pieces of paper are in small tins piled on my studio table, or in file folders. When I travel, I make up a little take along kit, but since I usually have only carry on luggage, I can't take my scissors or xacto knife with me. When I travel I carry some scraps then supplement with local materials that I tear up. It's so interesting to read about how others approach their own process. You did a good job of writing up your hints.

Postmuse I know exactly what you mean-I have loads of envelopes with themed bits in and they never find their way into the same mailart piece.

The idea of the get involved page was to get people sending, and everyone sending would write to the blog, that was the plan. When people sign up on the form I just add them to the blog. That was the plan anyway. As it ruined out people just emailed me, so I may well get rid of the form.

Anyone want anything else added to the site? Happy to add whatever you need.

Of course people can get involved with mailart 365 any time, hopefully setting their own start dates, but December 1st was when I hoped to start with whoever wanted to join me

I've started with my collecting, which is actually my favorite part of creating cards. I love to collect bits and pieces that seem to go together and put them in envelopes with notes on the front, like "book courting," and later can't figure out what the heck the stuff inside the envelope has to with what I've written on the envelope. Lots of time the bits never end up being used together because I cannibalize those envelopes for other things all the time, but I love the process of sorting and matching bits. It keeps me happily busy in the evenings and off the Internet (I don't have tv, so that is never a distraction) for hours and hours.

Writers list? Get involved? I feel so involved already and we haven't even started. Or have we? Royal we being used here. Today I found a tin with small cut out numbers in it. Ah ha! Those will be useful. And I have a tin of color bits, perfect for color studies, which I used to teach. Ideas are forming. I think I've started, even though no actual MA is being produced.

On the blog there is a "Get Involved!" section. I'm not sure if that is meant for folk to sign up to participate in actually creating mailart, or if it is meant for folk to sign up to get a piece of mailart from one of the participants, or both. I'm not sure what a "writers list" is either.

And, if people want to sign up to participate after 1 Dec 2010, that's okay, yes?

I'm making a piece of mail art to send off to a former student of mine, now in a graduate program in a distant state. A piece of MA arrived from her while I was away. This will be my last card that is NOT a part of our 365 project. I'm going on hiatus from MA until the 1st. It'll be like a cleansing breath! I'm glad we're doing this as a group effort. My son (the 365 guy) said that when he reached 100, his fans really helped him to keep moving. When we get to 100, we'll cheer each other on.

Not long to go now. Me and Elena are taking a little break before the start, so we're going to be fresh for December 1st!

Spending the weekend splashing and painting papers/cards, cutting into postcard size for the bases of mail art and awaiting December 1 to BEGIN!
