CIRCLES

Call them circles, call them dots, use a hole punch, use a template, draw them, scribble them, paint them, collage them. This is all about circles and how we make use of them.

Nice time circles, circulating, Katerina. I thought about circles a lot yesterday,, when I got a bag of blood oranges.I remember so clearly the first time I saw one. My honey and I were traveling. We were in our mid 20s, and had spent a week in Barcelona then rented a car to drive along the coast, then up to Madrid, and a train trip back to Barcelona. We'd stopped at a beach resort for a night, then on to Valencia, with no plans where to stay. For some reason we ended up by the train station. I went in, with my dictionary, as I had hardly any Spanish then, and went to the information desk. There, the person gave me information for a place to stay. We managed to find the neighborhood, how I don't know, pre GPS. We found the apartment building and the apartment and tapped on the door. A young man answered and somehow, in what language I don't know, let us know to come back later. We went to a cafe and had something, then returned. The door was opened by a woman who invited us in. She spoke no English. I had very little Spanish hola como esta basic greeting only, but she got her husband and her high school age son, and I spoke French to the son who translated to the parents and I translated back to my honey.. Turns out the couple were from Cuba and were renting rooms in their apartment to earn money to save to come to the US of A. They rented only to male students, but after our conversation said they'd love for us to stay. They gave us their bedroom. We stayed two nights. The first morning, they gave us sliced oranges - blood oranges - we'd never seen them before and were very taken by them. It was a lovely time visiting Valencia and meeting that couple. We paid them what they asked for, some small amount, probably, and went on our way to Madrid. I hope they made it to the US, if that was their goal. I think of them, especially when we have a blood orange.

These will go out in the mail soon as my Global stamps arrive. How did I ever not notice I was low on them?

One is called Direction and one is called Gravity.
