Tis the season...

I don't celebrate Christmas, but it's a good time to connect with the season of good cheer, goodwill, thoughts for a peaceful world, and so I'm getting ready with some Mail Art.

Watercolor beauty from Bill Porter

Another beauty of a card has arrived in Greece from Bill. This is titled: "Russian Sage No.2"

He has inspired me to pull out my watercolors and brushes, too.

The envelope has a most delicate, almost Japanese, detail.…

Three letters today! Lucky me.

From Fleur I received this green envelope with a smaller origami envelope inside:

Inside the ornate envelope is this little ATC gem:

It's a snowy, handmade reindeer! What a perfect holiday greeting. Thanks…

Nadine Wendell-Mojica makes my skin crawl

Really do love the unpredictable stitching on this very small two-pager:

(And yes, two thumbs up for Rachel Carson.) Another great Nadine drawing/watercolor, along with missing camouflage birds (seen below on envelope), book note on back, and both sides of the envelope, not to be missed. The back of the envelope has a little something drawn by Nadine that makes my skin…

David Stafford the (possible) alien, with great watercolor

Great watercolor, David, and is she singing, laughing, or screaming? Whichever it is, two thumbs up. Maybe it's all three, so much the better.

The other side at first looked partly as though you were sending me a denim patch to wear with…

Judith Heartsong's modern take on the classic still-life

That's why she includes the label on a pair: I mean a pear! Judith sent this lovely watercolor as a pair--cut in two--separately, on the same day. One half arrived a couple of days later, and the other arrived 10 days later. So the message Judith wrote, which was cut in half, was quite a puzzle for a little while--as was the whereabouts of the second half, on the part of both of… Continue

Gentle push from Judith Heartsong

How did she know I need this? "Get yourself outside" and wonderful old doors that remind me of the happiest days of childhood, spent at my grandparents' house in upstate New York. Literally, a breath of fresh air for the mind. I don't get out enough now and think that Judith must be psychic.…

Thom Courcelle's packet of goodies

Opening Thom's envelope was a bit like opening a CARE package, filled with uplifting and unexpected things.  First, there was Thom's envelope itself, painted beautifully in watercolor:

It's lovelier in person because my Mac Image Capture does a rotten job with orange.  The starfish's markings are more a burnt orange on top with lighter and brighter orange underneath. …

Wonderful sneakiness

David Stafford sent me this painting after a chance encounter in the chat room here. He asked me for suggestions on what to make for someone, whose name I cannot now remember. I tossed off the suggestion of a goat-headed woman holding a leashed cactus. Little did I know what was about to happen. I was surprised and delighted when this gem showed in my mail. Thank you David!…

Process for Mailart #017 - "Zabeth"

I took some step-by-step photos of my painting/drawing process for Mailart piece #017. I thought I'd share them here.

I started with tracing paper over a photo. I knew I wanted three different colors: a pale brown, a darker brown, and blue for the sky. I drew the borderlines that would delineate each area.…
