I put my braquesque 10 yr old painting in the school parents' night show and ..blaah! people would ask me: " but what does it MEAN??" oh. I didn't get the message across. So I started adding words. Mail art is the balance of reification and the restricted rhetoric of ordinary language (pictures 'n words). In music, words make opera happen; the same rule applies in the visual arts.
It's a great bunch of folks and I hope that you enjoy exchanging Mail Art with us. I'm your Mentor, and if I can help to ease you into IUOMA in any way, then please don't hesitate to ask and I'll try to explain what's going on and how IUOMA works.
If you haven't already done so, I suggest you take a look at the 'New to IOUMA' page (4th from the left at the top of the IUOMA home page) where you'll find a 10-point Introductory Guide that should give you an insight as to what is going on.
Would you like to exchange some Mail Art with me? If so, send me something to 1 Rue de la Vieille Fontaine, F-11130 Sigean, France, and I PROMISE to send you something back.
BUT if you want me, or anyone else in IUOMA, to send you any snail mail Mail Art back, you're going to have to provide us with your postal address. If people have to ask you for it, then it gets to be a bit of an unecessary hassle for one and all.
Hoping you enjoy your IUOMA days. Whether you find any meaning in what you send and get is entirely up to you. But, be warned, Mail Art & IUOMA can be seriously addictive.
Earthling, this is the last but certainly not the least welcome message to IUOMA you receive. I’m a celestial mail artist living in a heavenly corner of the faraway universe called Republik van Patland. When you joined IUOMA on June 20 I was unable to welcome you on board. At the time I was in a celestial journey far beyond the Milky Way. Now, back to planet Earth, I´d love to be the other end when you decide it’s the right time to start trading snail mail art. If this is the case at the time your envelope should read as follows:
The Celestial Scribe
Terrene Embassy
The Celestial Republik van Patland
Caixa Postal 24827
Curitiba-PR

Brazil
II look forward to see a piece of yours in our terrene mailbox. I will do my homework after receiving yours. This is a celestial promise. I’m Patricio, Celestial Scribe & Republik van Patland official envelope provider.
I´m not too choosy about yoga students, specially when they are of feline origin. my wife is a yoga teacher. She just get in love with the feline trikonasana To bridge the gap Del Rio-Curitiba is now an ongoing process with no end on sight and it shows! Now is homework time this side. I´ll keep you posted.
I like your work, very thought provoking. It seems to take the whole of cultural life and turn it into a sardonic message deconstructing everything we have come to believe through western philosophy. Almost a cartoon! Maybe, it is not meant to be so deep? But, I guess once you give something to the world [especially the world of art] people will make all kinds of narratives from it.

I've just spent an inordinate amount of time clicking through your collection of artistamp photos and chuckling out loud… I can't even choose a favorite--they're all wonderful! Thanks for your sense of humor and great artistry, Ian! ...Wow.
13.09.16 Dare Mister Ian C. Dengler, ...I haven't really scoped today's offering but I know it's gonna be another classic ( "One-A-Day-Classic" (class act). Do you read a lot? Sincelery, Richard Canard
09.03.18 Dare Ms. Carolyn Cline (as if we were not on Mister Ian C. Dengler's back porch), ...yeah, me too. I have a hard time just keeping up with what seems to be a daily proliferation.... my response is usually scratching my head & then, having to goggle the so-called "philosopher-of-the-day". SinCelery, Richard Canard
Hi Ian! I’m new to this whole mail art scene, and up ‘til now I wasn’t sure what artistamps were. Wow...very interesting and creative! Wish there was a button to “favorite” them all in one fell swoop! I’m going to “friend” you, if thst’s okay. And perhaps you may want to swap mail art with this chickie from Minnesota.

The Tulip Fairy has arrived safely in France: thank you.
She said that she wasn't sure that she would get here, because it's becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish your stamps from those of UPS.
I told her that your stamps are much more interesting, and she agreed.
She also asked me to mail you something back, and I agreed to that too.
So one day soon, you'll get some mail from me.
Thaks again, and...
Bon weekend, Val
