MANHOLE COVER LOVERS

There must be billions of them in the world. We pass them every day. We walk on them. We do not take any notice of them. They are heavy, and usually made of cast iron. They come in many different shapes, sizes and patterns. Look, and you will find them everywhere.

What are they? MANHOLE COVERS, that provide access to local service systems such as water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications.

Post photos of any interesting ones you find here.

The Bennell ironfoundry used to be on Greenstead Road, Val, where Tesco is now. That cover is on East Hill. I looked in Belle Vue Road and there aren't any near number 4, sorry. They haven't put up the blue plaque for you yet either.

Thanks Alan. Who knows -- I might have walked over it in a previous reincarnation?

Can you find me a Cover from Belle Vue Rd, Wivenhoe, please? ideally near number 4;

A curious juxtaposition!

It could also be an exit for the disabled. Or a warning for them not to wheel over the Cover.

This message is ambiguous, is it an entrance for the disabled?

A type of manhole cover I hadn’t seen before, but it must have been here since ages (Amstelveen, the Netherlands).
