OMG, the Merzbarn is an architectural installation by Schwitters?!? It is SO beautiful. I'm glad you posted it, Erni. I was envious, thinking he worked there, but of course then he did, for a while, working on it, not in it.

Love the cardboard poetry ~ and have collected quite a few pieces, especially from old cardboard advertising packaging ~ yet never actually realized I love cardboard until you said it.

Question: Which D came up with the term trashpo, or was it someone else?

He couldn't have been too clean conscious-didn't he use greasy hamburger wrappers etc.? His art is so amazing and I have no Schwitters books either. Neither does our library!

Unbelievably, there is no Schwitters book on my shelf. One favorite Schwitters is here; is that sandpaper we see? That he did sand collage is my second new thing learned here today, and it's early yet! IUOMA is like going to school again.

Top form, Theresa! Thanks for the info, Erni. Interesting. I wonder if Schwitters was the afraid-of-germs type or wanted the clean look to go with his work; I'm guessing the latter. His work is very neat. How lucky was he to have a printer for a main resource! Misprints and leftovers = paradise.

Cannot locate it now, but someone was saying yesterday or today that Schwitters cleaned all his trash? I mean the trash used in his collages and am wondering how he did that, if anyone knows. Maybe he actually just used dirtless trash, trash of an untrashy variety. It does look pretty clean, practically sterile (ick), in much of his work. Some found papers would seem impossible to clean, and should that be a priority?

You're right. The Delete-erati posing as the de-litterati was a miserable failure. The delete-erati only care about destruction and always choose plastic
