What's your default? 7 Replies

Because my friend Matt asked me this the other night, I had to think about it. His is painting a blue sky and some clouds, then he waits to see if anything more comes. His skull for Skull Appreciation Day was just the blue sky & clouds cause…Continue

Who will you send  your first piece of mail to? I've been thinking about this a lot. Will it be someone in this group? Will it be one of the many mail artists I've exchanged MA with over the years? Will it be one of my letter writing friends, or my…Continue

Significant dates for the diary (some might say...) 41 Replies

McFloozy mentioned Quack Day in February and I had a message from Valentine Mark Hermann telling me of an anniversary in February. I figured that it would be best to put all the dates in one discussion, so anyone could contribute and we could all…Continue

Oh geez Boo....Sorry

Was never trying to offend...

i am a former medical person & i am just very against the whole rx drug thing...

ADHD is one of those things in which school teachers seem to be able to diagnose & that really disturbs me.

If they are working for you - Congratulations - I am glad that they are helping you in a positive way...

I guess most of my issues stem mostly from my current situation which has nothing to do with ADHD & everything to do with pain -

it is yet another case in which those damn docs keep trying to stuff more & more pills down my throat.

They say I can eat 6 oxycontin a day in combination with a morphine patch but they wont let me hit a bong as needed for pain...

I cannot eat drugs like that & be around my child - it just isn't fair

As for the hard street drugs, i went down that path also

(worked for the Grateful Dead for a few years)

I know that street oh to well...

I guess i feel like - we didn't have any of these RX things back in the day & yet somehow we survived.

Now the capitalist pharm companies produce products that hook us & cause multitudes of other problems...

I guess what I was trying to say is:

You got what you got & it is up to you to find a positive way to deal with whatever that is.

For me - i just learned learned learned,

I can weld - I can roof - i can do auto body - i can tattoo - i can do arbor work - i can lay flooring - I can build haybale houses....on & on & on....

Boo -

We love you for who you are & it has nothing to do with your medical issues or what drugs u may take for whatever issues you may have.

I in no way meant to sound superior as I believe that we are all equals in this world.

Thanks, Dewi. I think I was in the last age group before drugs hit hard -- and my children were in the group that watched friends being overdosed with Ritalin in grade school. Medications have been so healing for me and also for a friend who's bi-polar that I tend to focus on the good rather than the destructive possibilities. But Kentucky is a meth capital and heroin wiped out a large portion of a high school graduating class a decade or so ago; and I think I've seen some posts from mail artists who are headed down similar paths. Both viewpoints are critical to the conversation, so thanks again for sharing yours with me. xxoo

Oops sorry boo. Didn't mean to sound superior, perhaps should have prefaced it was more if an anger thing. I come from the days when the answer for any kind of behavioural problem was drugs. There were two paths, street drugs or prescription.
A lot of my friends and I experimented with these paths but we lost quite a few people along the way.
Which is probably where my anti drug thing comes from, especially this month because there are two people in the circle who are probably way way down the path to self destruction.
So my apologies and know that reading that someone found balance actually gives me a bit of hope.

Great Idea, the wallet sized calendar book, number the days, keep the stamps with it, omg, this is good! Who knew that this project would serve multiple purposes. There is life beyond the 365, after his ended, Noah just moved on to other projects and so will we (or not.)

Same here. I have a nice calendar created by a high school art club. I have numbered the days through March or so. OMG. I am organizing myself. What is this project DOING to me???

What a great idea, postmuse. I'm having a dreadful time remembering from one day to the next -- and it's only January 2. Where are we going to be come July or October?

Mim's calendar gave me an idea. I'm going to buy one of those cheapo "pocket calendars" that are checkbook size and write the card numbers in each space so I don't lose track. It was easy in Dec because the card number matched the date, but by June I'm going to be wondering if I am really on 205/365 or 204/365 or 206/365. I'll keep the calendar with my postage stamps, because I always have that with me.

I wasn't diagnosed as ADHD until after my husband's death ten years ago, and I seriously regret that I didn't know sooner. My children paid a high price for my brain chemicals. I'm happy for those of you who have found methods other than meds, but you might want to work on finding a way to say so without sounding superior. No offense intended; those of us who are as old as I am and live just this side of psychotic without the effing drugs can get a little testy when provoked.
