Quilted Trashpo from Rebecca Guyver!!

I've been making Trashterpiece quilts lately in my quest to find new directions in trashpo. Rebecca said this inspired her to make this excellent trashpo quilt. she has added her own superior flair by scooping up the 'garbage' she had in her car, combing it with plastic bags, and making this color blocked quilt. It feels just like fabric and it would be great to see a bag made out of this.  Trashpo Textiles are the logical next step just like asemic wallpaper was!!!!!  Thank you Rebecca-I love this!

I am imagining a sort of loincloth or kilt. Maybe D-Kilts

There is a rare combo of paper an plastic  (plaper) that is the only thing I can imagine DKult textiles to be made from. It is quite  pricey per yard

Seems as if Rebecca is a bit of a "bag lady."

I am looking for some kind of bags that can be made into DKult Wearable Orgone Accumulators. WalMart bags are too small.

From my work in schools I know there is real poverty and we had plenty of 'in care kids'. There is social housing, but I suspect the US has social housing too?  The WI might sew plastic bags for the homeless, but it feels American.

I started to answer but then realised I have no real knowledge.  I live in a rural area and only see London and other cities as a visitor. Ipswich seems to have some homeless but I decided to look online to see and found a 2007 study. This is the summary paragraph.

It is important to note that the United States and the UK showed both more homelessness and less compassion toward the homeless in many respects, when compared to the other European nations. These findings support the notion that public opinion can have a significant impact (or at least reflects) actual public policy (Monroe, 1983; Page & Shapiro, 1989). If public opinion in the United States and the UK could be influenced in a positive direction, perhaps policy (and, ultimately, the prevalence of homelessness) could be changed as well. Or, perhaps, if policies could be changed, public opinion (and homelessness) would, eventually, be affected.

is homelessness a big problem there?

Wow! Amazing, Diane.  Now I can guarantee there is nothing like that here in England, bright bags or not!

maybe a homeless person took it?  I NEED to think that England has more colorful and cheery bags to reinforce my grass is always greener musings. Here's a story on the 'bags to beds' crafty crafty projects. This reminds me of Thom Courcelle's museum in Seattle that had a makeshift homeless housing concept that involved shopping carts and lawn chairs. He sent me the brochure and I don't have all the details--maybe Thom will weigh in?

Diane, I have been saving bags for a few years in anticipation of an obsessive moment.  Lots of the bags are dreary, though - wouldn't want you to think England has superior bags.  In fact, I think some of the bags may have even come in my suitcase from America.  Even I have to admit that's a little SAD...

As far as  re-using stuff.  Lyra, trash-hound, carried her ripped and un-stuffed toy on her walk recently.  She left it about half way.  This was about 5pm.  The next morning I took her on the same walk, expecting she would retrieve the toy but it had gone... NO ONE walks our walk.  It is on the edge of a lumpy field.  I wonder if some badger, or fox dragged the toy (It's quite big and furry) to its lair.
