Sandpo (special monkey delivery) - from Katerina Nikoltsou

I don't mean to brag (well, only a little bit), but I am still (no matter what some people might think) the number one mail art psychic in the house. A couple of weeks ago as I saw the picture of a monkey stealing Katerina's sandpaper on De Villo's blog, I predicted that some sandpaper monkey mail art would turn up very soon. Not only did it turn up, but it turned up in my…

Puzzle envelopes - from Ahmet Demir

After I sort of messed up his envelopes last time I thought that Ahmet would give up sending me puzzles, but it seems like he is a very nice and forgiving person :-) This is the third set of envelopes I got, and I am going to repeat myself but, wow, how much work behind it! Millions of colorful dots for this stunning result.

The puzzle came in a sexy sleek no hear-no…

A piece of Aussie Land - from Helen Amyes

My first ever envelope from Australia arrived last week. Until now I only admired Helen's work on other people's blogs, but I am now the proud owner of one of her cards. A big slice of Australia for me, starting with the kangaroo envelope (love it!).

The card is a book page decorated with painting, postal stamps, rubber stamps? (not sure) and... one of Helen's silky…

Fluxus Bucks and Haptic/Asem(en)ic poem à la sauce Grigstaire - from Grigori Antonin

This week I got a bit richer. Grigori sent me these very colorful Fluxus Bucks. I had to check out what they actually are, and found a whole world of arty bucks. As you probably know there is a group dedicated to them on IUOMA and hosted by Ruud Janssen, check it out here. These seem to be from Julie Jefferies aka. ex posto facto, miss Fluxus Bucks herself. A couple of them seem pretty "done", I might send them back to…

Advent goodies - from Susanna Lakner (Planet Susannia)

I have landed on Planet Susannia, yeeey! I have been admiring Susanna's work on the various IUOMA blogs, I find it very cool, she is such a talented collagist and stamp designer. A true artist.

Those are the first artist trading cards that I got. I think I'll be making some in return for Susanna, they are quite inspiring, I like working with this…

An early winter sunset - from Katerina Nikoltsou

A piece of Greek beauty arrived in my mailbox the other day. A big slice of warm and luscious Greek sunset. And I should add, fragrant (I'm guessing cinnamon this time?). The painting is a perfect dégradé of orange in thick brush strokes. Wouldn't it be great to sip a tea at a table outside a café in front of the sea, best seat of the theater? I actually feel like I am there, in Thessaloniki, witnessing the sun… Continue

1/2 puzzle envelopes - return to Ahmet Demir

The deal when you get Ahmet's puzzle envelopes is to send him back two other envelopes he added in the mail. The envelopes are his own design and will be matched with the other half of the puzzle, being sent back to him from yet another part of the world.

I decorated this one with cherry blossom rubber stamps I am making for my new year's cards. But... I realized only after scanning that I placed the tanuki stamp so close to the lady's boobies! Horny tanuki, this one. I just hope I didn't… Continue

Puzzle envelopes - from Ahmet Demir

There's nothing like Ahmet's envelopes, they are just amazing. I can't even imagine how much work is put into each puzzle he is sending out, what with them being made of millions of microscopic dots! Truly unique and wonderful work, thanks so much… Continue

Can't find a title for it - for RCBz

I'm sometimes starting something with a clear idea of what it should look like, and then it ends up in a limbo. Like this piece. I now think it might send out the wrong message. Like ugly vs beautiful, man vs woman, western vs asian etc... Even if it is based on a famous Japanese wood print, I'm a bit worried that it might come out as borderline racist. I can assure you that this is not the case (or not my intention). At all.

I… Continue

Wrapping paper envelope

With the template of envelope I made yesterday, I started making envelope.

Today I use wrapping paper to make envelope. On the back of the paper, I used Japanese paper tearing off and do collages to make more elaborate, even inside the envelope. I could not do well with folding, so I will be careful next time. I learned that when I paste a…

That silly rabbit thought... - from Miss James

That silly rabbit thought he couldn't burn. Well well well... Unbelievably cute doesn't mean unbelievably smart, does it? :-)

In any case, this is a fantastic envelope from the rodent lover (that sounds wrong) Miss James.

Rabbit looking at the moon.... Here in Japan the rabbit is highly symbolic, and strongly associated with the moon. I found an interesting article on the paradoxical and contradictory… Continue

Look at my shoes - for Crystel

This one is for my friend Crystel. I see her only twice a year when I go back to Europe and I miss her. This summer we both bought a very similar pair of red shoes and it became a sort of an in-joke between us. When I saw this add for shoes in one of the vintage magazines I bought in Jinbocho I immediately felt like sending it to her.

The envelope is made from a very cheep print of a famous japanese woodblock print.

There are not so many price tags around these days, everything seems… Continue
