Received: Ruud Janssen - Litsa Spathi, mail art and Fluxus stamps (Breda, Netherlands)

September 6, 2010 - IUOMA founder and artist Ruud Janssen kept up his mail art correspondence during these past weeks while traveling to Athens and Switzerland. I recently received an envelope from him that includes a page of beautiful stamps shown above (drawn by Thomas Kerr and printed by Joel…

Scholarship from Anchor Graphics in Chicago

Just found out that I have received a scholarship to learn Stone Lithography at Anchor Graphics. It's a ten week course and I'm thrilled at the chance to learn this art form. Have been preparing a swipe book and researching all weekend. I'm determined to make the best of my time.

Tanuki Mail Rubber Stamp

A newly carved rubber stamp in my small collection. I think I'll be using it quite a lot.
A tanuki is a japanese raccoon, I thought it would be a nice symbol for my mail.

Received: Karen Champlin's (Mail) Art Nation (Chicago School, USA)

September 3, 2010 - Karen Champlin and I joined the IUOMA about three months ago, only days apart if not on the same day. She was one of my first friends, and it has been a joy watching her art evolve and blossom. I saw her earliest pieces as posts on this site. My first reaction was that they were assemblages of…

Received from John M Bennett

An incredible package of work. Beautiful full color vispo book, Zabod. Many smaller books and booklets, I think 9 or 10 in all. Such a gift. This will teach me a lot. Thank you John!

Two big smiles

Yesterday I got two beautiful postcards. Ever so special since they are the very first mail art to reach my mailbox. And it made me so happy.

This one is from Grigori Antonin, much obliged. Love the way the camera lens seems to be popping out from the card!

And this beautiful japonesque postard is from Jennie Hinchcliff.

Am I lucky or… Continue

Received from Julian Grant

Thanks Julian for this mystery piece. The guy looks wasted (or wounded). The woman comforts him. But she's blue. Is she death or an angel rescueing him. AND WHO LET THOSE KIDS IN THE THEARTER! I love the black red and yellow stage setting. Great piece Julian!

Submission to Grigori Antonin's Mailart Show in Honor of Jean Genet's 100th Birthday

August 31, 2010 - This photo documents "Solo for Violin," a performance by a Fluxus founder George Maciunas. I posted this last week for a few hours during a discussion on the IUOMA board. I received enough very positive feedback from members who saw it that I thought I'd share it again. Not everybody is familiar. The discussion involved Minnesota mailartist Grigori Antonin. My point was that the photo and the…

Received: Mailart satire Public School Science Project Third Place Winner (Minnesota, USA)

August 29, 2010 - This piece of what I am interpreting to be satirical mailart arrived in my mailbox postmarked Saint Cloud, Minnesota. The identity of the artist is unclear to me, although I believe it is from a member of the IUOMA. I've been amused by this and was also grateful to be reminded of the humorous aspect of mailart that can give you a reality check, often when most needed.…

Look at my shoes - for Crystel

This one is for my friend Crystel. I see her only twice a year when I go back to Europe and I miss her. This summer we both bought a very similar pair of red shoes and it became a sort of an in-joke between us. When I saw this add for shoes in one of the vintage magazines I bought in Jinbocho I immediately felt like sending it to her.

The envelope is made from a very cheep print of a famous japanese woodblock print.

There are not so many price tags around these days, everything seems… Continue
