LOST MAIL ART

This is a place where you can blog your mail art which went missing.  It will give us an idea of:

1) How many Mail Art pieces go missing

2) Types of Mail Art pieces which go missing

3) Which countries were involved

It will also be a way for the "would be recipient" and the rest of us to see what you sent.

Awards & competitions to be announced at a later date!

I've often wondered how many creative works are not delivered and for what reasons.  Some has suspected that theft is involved which I'm sure has been the case a few times, but the unconventional presentation of addresses would seem to be problematic in a few others.  Collaged work may have had the piece with the address fall off I would imagine.

As to recipients not blogging their received items, it is not always possible.  In my case, a new computer would not talk to my old scanner and both printers.  I had to wait a long time trying to find drivers and eventually had to buy new devices (expensive and time-consuming to research).  I plan to be much more active this winter and hope to scan bunches of mail art that has stacked up awaiting a response.  The first response will be to post on the web.

There is good reason to scan your sendings just to document what might not ever be seen again.  I never post my own art sendings or if so, would always prefer to wait until it can be delivered so that the surprise is not lost.

It takes time and patience...never rush with snail mail :-)

There are a million reasons why mail art may not be blogged, posted,

messaged "thanks"...immediately  or never. Some  people (like Erni)

will blog the mail art received immediately, and that is great, BUT others

have a stack of received mail art that will take time and days to blog,

(or not blog)...maybe barely get time to write a "thanks"

message here on-line. Others do not do the internet but

prefer to send-ireply-in-the-snail-mail...

and that will take a looong time, months,

even the following year sometimes!

Now, in my case:

I am trying to blog the mail art that I recently picked up in the city,

BUT...first, when i am not in the city the mail art may have arrived

days, weeks earlier, but just picked it all up on Monday and then there

are soooo many, so it will take time!

Next problem, internet service is weak when i am way out here

at the seaside shack...and who will be on a computer when ya can be

in the Aegean Sea??? Or on a trip...or moving to a new place...or getting

on with real life...family, kids, the dog...

Or, with that stack of accumulated mail art,

some pieces may "get lost"...fall behind a cabinet, under the bed,

the dog chewed it up...see what I mean?

Ya gotta be very patient with mail art :-)

Solution:

make it...mail it

So I gess the card below that I thought was lost was just really slow.  See the link where Katerina blogged about it.  Maybe I'll wait longer next time to proclaim MA lost.
