hahaha, Angie that is worth-a-million! Ok, send it on to David,

and I'll take the ol' Greek stamps. Did you find any old BLUE

George Washington's? There are a few misprinted ones worth

a few thousand $ :-)

(I like 'em cause they are BLUE!)

A&S: they are called 'Machins', after their designer Arnold Machin. They consist of the Queen's head, and the value of the stamp -- and nothing else, not even the name of the country.

From a Postal History point of view 3 things might be of interest:

i) the Machin head stamp was introduced in 1967, and it's design has not changed since then, even though Lizzie has aged by almost half a century. She has consistently resisted all efforts to change (ie 'update') the image.

ii) there are hundreds (possibly thousands)of  different versions of the stamps -- by colour, perforation, watermark, value, etc. Collecting Machins can be a very serious, and expensive business

iii) I read that the Machin image -- which is also used on GB coins and stamps from some of the British colonies is the most used image ever. i forget the estimate of how many times it's been used, but it runs into billions.

The End.
