What's your default? 7 Replies

Because my friend Matt asked me this the other night, I had to think about it. His is painting a blue sky and some clouds, then he waits to see if anything more comes. His skull for Skull Appreciation Day was just the blue sky & clouds cause…Continue

Who will you send  your first piece of mail to? I've been thinking about this a lot. Will it be someone in this group? Will it be one of the many mail artists I've exchanged MA with over the years? Will it be one of my letter writing friends, or my…Continue

Significant dates for the diary (some might say...) 41 Replies

McFloozy mentioned Quack Day in February and I had a message from Valentine Mark Hermann telling me of an anniversary in February. I figured that it would be best to put all the dates in one discussion, so anyone could contribute and we could all…Continue

I agree Sarah. I've been talking to Stripygoose about it (we work together) and we are both quite confused about what the Real network is actually trying to achieve. How can it possibly bill itself as a network if the aim is to send to yourself?! What sort of network is that?!

So that's why I put out the call, as I am pretty convinced that the way to do this is to make the plot dynamic, and actually show the potential of the post as a means of communication and a way to receive beautiful things that other people create. That's always been the idea for me and my REAL (REAL) wall

As far as I can tell, everything that gets sent in goes up in these plots and they take (quite low quality) photos of it every day. For most people who only send in one piece this makes for pretty uninteresting viewing. At the end I get to take it all home I hope (As the show unfolds I will be sending in the ENTIRE contents of my REAL wall, which I'll probably need a wheelbarrow to take home) - I can't imagine them wanting to keep it all...

Congrats Andy! Looks like you're showing them how it's done ;D

I've just had a look around the 'Real' site - seems like an interesting idea and a fun project. Not sure I entirely understand though... so people send post to you there (including yourself), and it gets displayed in a sort of gallery? Do you get to take it all home with you eventually? It looks great, and I'd love a plot, but I'd never get over to London to see any of it!

Woooohooo! My plot at the REAL network is now plot of the day and I think it's thanks to all of you who have sent in. Not only that, but the plot became so packed that the organisers have decided to give me a pretty special REAL wall type plot, double sized in the middle of the gallery!

Keep em coming guys, we can make this a huge exhibition!

Yup it's all the way through July Sarah. I have just checked and noticed that it's not arrived yet though, although the rest of the stuff I sent yesterday has, so I'm not 100% sure that Royal Mail have actually taken it. However, I left no return address so they don't have much choice (unless they throw it in the bin...) - I'll keep you posted

Thanks Andy. I'm going to use your free postage as an opportunity to send the more unusually shaped objects that I'm too shy (and poor) to take down to the Post Office! Is this throughout the month of July?

Congrats Angie! So glad that you made it to 365 AND that you are carrying on. An inspiration indeed

UK Mailartists, I just realised that sending to my REAL wall this month is actually FREE for you. Yup. I sent that block of wood to myself this morning and it cost me NOTHING.

That's a nice thought.

The address to send to is a FREEPOST address, so make sure you send to

FREEPOST RSYT-RXLS-EXJC
Real
The Royal Opera Arcade Gallery
1-2 Royal Opera Arcade
London
SW1Y 4UY

and don't hold back...
