Cover of mail-art book by IUOMA member Carina Granlund (Petsmo, Finland)
July 8, 2013 - Carina Granlund sent me this spectacular boekie that I believe represents a very successful and sustained work in the genre. Primarily grounded in collage, Carina uses an abundance of different materials including postcards, comics, photos and other varieties of found materials. Juxtaposing non-related materials gives the boekie its energy and interest. While I do not find an actual title, I am taking the liberty of naming the piece “Holiday Resorts of Finland” (from the cover) because the idea of a resort, vacation, relaxation, conviviality and general good will comprise a consistent theme.

As ever, many thanks to Carina Granlund!

I know... thank you DVS! Looking forward to your package!
& @ Carina - no, no, no. You are never disappointing! That wasn't the intent.
Glad you found it, Carina. Thanks again for the spectacular work. I have sent something to you in these last few days.
Much appreciated DVS! The title is perfect.
I guess all people (including me) are disappointing somehow...
Diane, "transports me" is a great comment! Thank you all guys!!
Rebecca, I had considered that was something Carina was doing here. I am very honoured. Of course, she would be sadly disappointed. Even an Empress would glad testify about the bastard I really am.
What is the self? A construct. Even moreso in this milieu.
When I endeavoured to investigate the surroundings of David Zack's passing, I spoke to a Shaman, a former Zack associate, who claimed he had seen Zack transform into a bird in a highway underpass.
I said: "I am going to get to the bottom of this. I am going to trace every connection until I arrive at the primary point."
He said: "Don't bother. It's a maze carefully constructed. You'll just go crazy. I know. I've been there."
There are far more interesting things to occupy our time.
No camera suggests to me that Carina is uncloaking our blogging hero as she imagines him, quite a chameleon, really.
Thanks all for the shared appreciation of Carina Granlund's epic effort, a sort of "Finlandia" of postcards & collage.
Carina is not shy of addressing any issues, such as her "Gun Wrack & Crackers," which is another of my favs, or her minimalist duct tape work.
I agree this work is just bursting with the positive & the spirit of friendship, a wonderful gesture.
Beautiful boekie and blog --
What fun! Carina's work always gives me a specific feeling that I can't really identify other than to say she transports me. If this book represents the spirit of Finland then sign me up!
