Sometimes songs with the most stupid lyrics do very well...like "Chirpy, chirpy cheap-cheap".

***

Where’s your mama gone? (Where’s your mama gone?)
Little baby Don (Little Baby Don)
Where’s your mama gone? (Where’s your mama gone?)
Far, far away

Where’s your papa gone? (Where’s your papa gone?)
Little baby Don (Little baby Don)
Where’s your papa gone? (Where’s your papa gone?)
Far, far away
Far, far away

Last night, I heard my mama singing a song
Ooh-We, Chirpy, Chirpy, Cheep, Cheep
Woke up this morning and my mama was gone
Ooh-We, Chirpy, Chirpy, Cheep, Cheep
Chirpy, Chirpy, Cheep, Cheep, Chirp

And there's a lot more!

It got to No 1 in the UK in 1971. How, I do not know.

Anyone fancy a drink with Herman and his Hermits?

This Vinyl Art assemblage masterpiece (oh, such modesty!) is called, "No milk today, Herman? OK let's drink Champagne!"Oh dear, you don't like Champagne? Then let me introduce you to one of my all-time favourite beersthe best beers -- Newcastle Brown Ale. This one is called, "No milk today, Herman? OK let's crack open some Newcastle Brown!"

And when you've drunk enough of it, you'll be seeing stars, so this one is "Newkie Brown -- ale for Superstars."

Cheers!

A local gallery asks artists each year to create art as part of their fundraiser . . The RPM Show at the Rogue Gallery in Victoria, BC, CANADA

Here is a piece I did for one of the events.

Beautiful 45's, Val! I don't have any vinyl that i would think to paint on

...but maybe Angie will bring along a few of her library's discards

to the meet-up in May. We can paint-up and collage-up a few?

Two more!

This one -- called "EP Wheel" -- is a 4-track EP (extended player) vinyl record, with one circle of dots for each of the four tracks, plus an extra one in the 'lead out' where the music stops. There's an extra circle of small dots in the  'lead in', or 'run in' outer edge:

The second one is called "You lied, Adriano". The full title of the track by Adriano Celentano is "Don't Play that Song (You Lied)".

The silver shape crying thingy is called a "Darlo", because it comes from Darlinton, England, where I come from too. The golden shape thingy is called an "Erni", because it is one of two (doorstops) given to me by, guess who?

Yes, you got it --Erni Bar!

Erni: I can buy old 45s at flea markets at 3, 4 or 5 for €1. These are suitable for Vinyl art...but generally not worth listening to.

I pay more (but never more than €10) for a 45 or an LP that I want to listen to and add to my collection.

Rose: I'm glad the message about Vinyl art that I beamed to you the other night arrived. These messages are much cheaper than stamps. As is frisby post.

At this stage, and I am as new to this as you and everyone else, I think that we should be guided by Marshall McLuhan's words "The medium is the message". By this, my proposal is to focus on the vinyl, and not worry about if it is classical, rock, jazz or whatever.

But this being art, this being mail art, and this being IUOMA, everyone will -- and should-- come up with their own interpretations.

As to mailing out what we produce, well some folks will and some won't.

It'll be reasonably cheap to mail a 45, but not, I fear a 33. Perhaps at this very early stage we should just 'show and tell' and see what happens?

I have no idea what will happen....That's the fun of the whole thing!

Erni: the only comment I have to make to this is why is Yul Brynner (reincarnated as Erni) giving Deborah Kerr 'the finger'? What has she done, or not done?

Comment by Valentine Mark Herman on April 17, 2014 at 5:14am

Erni; thanks for the photo of the prototype Bang, Olufsen and Svensson  record-player.

As you can imagine, it didn't work -- one of the (many) problems was that the automatic record changer had several design faults in it, resulting in the mess that is in your photo.

Sven Svennson, who was responsible for it, could not correct them, so he was asked to leave the company, and Bang and Olufsen continued on their own.

Svensson has not been heard of since the log cabin that he was building in a Swedish forest collapsed on him -- it also had serious design faults.
