Year of the Golden Rabbit Mail Art Call

Year of the Golden Rabbit Mail Art Call

I was born in the last year of the golden rabbit (5 cycles ago) so this will be my second.  In honor of that, and because I love rabbit-themed art, I am hosting a year-long Year of the Golden Rabbit mail art call.

Don't rabbits symbolize fecundity?

That golden army is awesome! I haven't seen any good chocolate rabbits locally yet this year.

Fun to have an art history discussion going on - reminds me of sitting throuh all of the art history classes my mom TA'd for at UCB while I was a teenager. ;)

oops, Maarten de Vos' picture got elongated, my fault. Imagine everybody fatter, possibly from eating the gorgeous rabbits sent by Tic Tac

I gather that Dialectica is a painting by Abu'l Hasam on an engraving by Jan Sadeler from a painting by Maarten de Vos . Not the other way around because Sadeler was the engraver not De Vos. When looking at other work by these artists their respective styles do not seem to match that of Dialectica, I think.Have a look:

Abu'l Hasam

De Vos

and Sadeler, also after de Vos

and Dialectica

now in Zurich on loan from Russia. As to the story I am still in the dark, we could have a nice project writing our own to explain the picture.
