MANHOLE COVER LOVERS

There must be billions of them in the world. We pass them every day. We walk on them. We do not take any notice of them. They are heavy, and usually made of cast iron. They come in many different shapes, sizes and patterns. Look, and you will find them everywhere.

What are they? MANHOLE COVERS, that provide access to local service systems such as water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications.

Post photos of any interesting ones you find here.

So nice, and the ones in Japan are fabulous! Greek manhole covers are "same ol'-same ol'", but I found a rare "1999" one, yay!

How beautiful those Japanese manhole covers are!

I wished there would be such pictoral manhole covers (and postmarks btw) in my country, too…

Sometimes there is a tiny picture on Dutch manhole covers, like the one David Herman found in Venlo, and like these in Den Haag (The Hague). I showed other Haagse (The-Hagian) manhole covers before, but yesterday I came across this one, which was almost twice as large as the usual manhole covers. And it shows the Dutch lions (? there are no lions living in the wild in the Netherlands :-) ), and the stork, symbol of this city, with a poor fish in his beak:
