Because my friend Matt asked me this the other night, I had to think about it. His is painting a blue sky and some clouds, then he waits to see if anything more comes. His skull for Skull Appreciation Day was just the blue sky & clouds cause…Continue

Who will you send  your first piece of mail to? I've been thinking about this a lot. Will it be someone in this group? Will it be one of the many mail artists I've exchanged MA with over the years? Will it be one of my letter writing friends, or my…Continue

Significant dates for the diary (some might say...) 41 Replies

McFloozy mentioned Quack Day in February and I had a message from Valentine Mark Hermann telling me of an anniversary in February. I figured that it would be best to put all the dates in one discussion, so anyone could contribute and we could all…Continue

Andy, your mock-up book is terrific. A book is definitely possible from this project. It'd need some tight editing so it wasn't too cumbersome. Copyright issues can be worked out. What fun!

Hi folks - I've been getting a few more calls to join (3 today) so have been adding a few more people. I'm sure you'll all make them feel welcome. To try to reduce the repetition for me, I've put up a discussion here where you guys can help out by throwing in all the tips for beginners.

Cheers!

Personally, I love the idea of being included in a book -- what a great treat for making it all the way though 365 days! Copyright is something to keep in mind, but if each artist has a pool of 365 artworks to choose from (I'm assuming each artist would pick a certain number of their works... 10-12 or something like that, to keep the book to a reasonable page count), it seems like it would be easier to pick things out that weren't candidates for copyright infringement...

PS: glad you liked the RLD post! :-)

A book would be wonderful, however I do worry about copyright issues since some of the images used in mailart may not be free if used for personal gain. It is one reason I have dragged my feet about bit about making my Orphaned Postcard Project into a book.

I was mainly thinking of just including the ones who manage to make it to 365 in a year. I don't mind people doing the 365 over however long they like, it's not a race, but I think that for a book, things should be tight.

This was remarkably easy to do believe it or not - just whacked the URL in to http://blog2print.sharedbook.com/blogworld/printmyblog/index.html then filtered by labels (Yes another good reason to tag your posts with your names people!)

For a proper book though, I'd likely use blurb, but that could take AGES, however it would allow me to edit more, like summarising thumbnails and things for people.

What about things like layout - all at once by day, or by person?

holy smokes Andy!! That looked like a ton of work! Beautiful. I like the idea of a book but you're right about how it would be mammothly huge. I 'spose it would have to be edited, I don't know if you could put 365xhowever many people there are participating. Just highlights from each participant or only the people that finish with close to 365 posts maybe??? Interesting.....very interesting.

Hi folks

I'm just toying with the idea of making a book. It would be kinda cool to see our names in print, even if it is just a small run, self-published using something like Blurb, and I don't intend to make any huge profit, just enough to pay for our stamps. Obviously, anyone who's completed the 365 would get a cheque with a share of the profits or something like that.

The idea is still forming really. I love Jennie's blog post and love the idea of any book to incorporate a bit about the whole scene rather than just a solid version of the blog.

What does anyone else think of this?

Obviously, with nigh on 400 posts already after 3 weeks, I imagine that any book that pops out the end will be a mammoth tome of mailart (it took about 15 minutes to import it all for this preview for example) so it would obviously take a helluva lot of work. Is it worth it? Is it something you'd like to see?
