Because my friend Matt asked me this the other night, I had to think about it. His is painting a blue sky and some clouds, then he waits to see if anything more comes. His skull for Skull Appreciation Day was just the blue sky & clouds cause…Continue

Who will you send  your first piece of mail to? I've been thinking about this a lot. Will it be someone in this group? Will it be one of the many mail artists I've exchanged MA with over the years? Will it be one of my letter writing friends, or my…Continue

Significant dates for the diary (some might say...) 41 Replies

McFloozy mentioned Quack Day in February and I had a message from Valentine Mark Hermann telling me of an anniversary in February. I figured that it would be best to put all the dates in one discussion, so anyone could contribute and we could all…Continue

Oh seeing this pic of Mim with reminds me..... I meant to tell you all that last month I attended an opening with John Baldassari. We went up to meet him and my husband introduced me as an artist, something I'm often too shy to do and John said "oh, what type of artist are you?" I told him I trained as asculptor but now I mainly make mailart and he said.......wait for it....... "Oh mailart, yeah, my friend Ray Johnson used to do that, do people still do that?" !!!!!! I couldn't believe it! I told him about IUOMA and he seemed amused. I also told him that maybe I would mail him something. He said sure. I reckon we should all mail him something. Anybody game? I have his mailing address.

I'd totally get into the ATC part. :) Never heard of them before now, so had to look it up.

Hello all, one a day... I wish it was so organized. It usually cones in spurts like today. Big trip to the post office but I am looking for morrisey's return address.

And tonight I am going to have to catch up with my letters. I still have a few letters escaping me but the search continues.

Ps Post, I love wackystuff's ATCs. They definately count as mail art in my book.

And I now have quite a bit if 365 work, so stating in March there will be a show here at the Museum of Ornamental Post of the collected work.

And one last thing... Looking for your summer wishes for a solo show I Am doing in June. Just email them to dewi.arts@hotmail.com ( and they will be put into fortune cookies )

My friend Andrea in the UK would send a postcard on which she'd made 2 ATCs that you could then cut out. Cool. If you don't send it through the mail, it's not Mail Art. If you put it in an envelope that you've art-ed up, then that's the mail art. Okay, so I'm a purist. ha ha ha. Did I ever tell you that I met the guy who started the whole ATC thing? yup, I did. I put my photo on the Self-Portrait group of IUOMA.

Wackystuff, in Canada, used to send his ATCs as part of the postcard. They were sealed on the card in such a way that you could remove the ATC without harming the postcard too much. I think I might try to do that at some point this year.

If they're sent through the post then yeah definitely. It's debatable what mailart is in the same way that it's debatable what art is I guess. The only difference is that mailart goes through the post at some time

I am lucky to get one piece of mailart made a day. There are days when I do have lots of time and can spend it happily covered in glue, but it often takes me a long time to put a card together, so I just focus on doing my one a day and then if I can do more, I do. I spend tons of free time writing mail, so it doesn't leave me as much time to create mailart. BUT, I have to say that doing the one piece a day has been very good therapy for focusing my attention on many things in my life. I think this project has gotten me even more organized and motivated to write and create.

I have to say I quite agree with you Camel. The darker side of mailart took a while to get my head around but now I really love seeing the pieces you guys produce. It's really cool to have the diversity that mailart allows. There is real breadth to our skills and tastes
