An artistamp (a portmanteau of the words "artist" and "stamp") or artist's stamp refers to a postage stamp-like artform. It is similar to a Cinderella stamp in that it is not valid for postage, but it differs from a forgery or a bogus stamp in that (typically) the creator has no intent to fool any post office or collector of stamps. (However, depending on how the stamp is used, it may be difficult to distinguish artistamps from local post stamps.) The artistamp is intended to be a miniature artwork which can depict or commemorate any subject its creator chooses.

You can use a variety of imaging software programs.  If you have Microsoft Paint, that's all you need to arrange images.  It's simple to use.  I render my photos with Photoshop, but it's easier to create the array with Paint.

I use MS Word. It's  not really an image program, but I insert a table with the correct size boxes and then add images. One advantage is you can add words, such as 2¢.

How does one print a sheet of small images suitable for perforating starting from a single image?

I've tried using Corel PhotoPaint v9 which has various multiple printing templates built in such as 2x2 up to 4x4 but so far I've been unable to avoid crowding the image off the edge or corner of the array.

HELP please!

The self-adhesives are not perforation, just perf-shaped diecuts.

Some modern perforations are done with a machine which presses the sheet against a 'pimply' plate and grinds the holes away. In the old days the perforator used to do a whole row at once, in a comb shape  |_|_|_|_| then move on to do the next row, so all the corners were wholly whole holes.

How does the USPS make 'perfect' perfs? What I mean is, how do they make perfect crossings where a line of perfs crosses another and all the little holes are perfectly registered so that there are only perfect holes?

I'd wondered about getting a laser cutter/engraver and finding a way to guide it to make perfs... until I saw the price!
