An artistamp (a portmanteau of the words "artist" and "stamp") or artist's stamp refers to a postage stamp-like artform. It is similar to a Cinderella stamp in that it is not valid for postage, but it differs from a forgery or a bogus stamp in that (typically) the creator has no intent to fool any post office or collector of stamps. (However, depending on how the stamp is used, it may be difficult to distinguish artistamps from local post stamps.) The artistamp is intended to be a miniature artwork which can depict or commemorate any subject its creator chooses.

LOL Yet another reason I don't like the whole 'collecting' aspect of things. ;)

When you look at "official" stamps they have a denomination and an issuing authority on top of the little picture.  But of course, as with everything else, there are exceptions.  Some are stamps, some are stickers.  This is an important difference to many artistamp creators.

Don't miss getting you photo posted to the upcoming revolving slide show of artistampers. This is an open call for photos of artistampers in the artistamp museum. It can be a stand alone photo or part of your stamps.

Please post them at the Gina Lotta Post Artistamp Museum's new Facebook Page's wall. They'll become part of the museum collection so be sure to describe your post (your name or names if it is a group photo).

If you do not use Facebook, please mail your photo to: PO Box 1424, Jupiter, FL 33468. See http://artistampmuseum.blogspot.com for further directions and details.

My stamps thus far have been done up by Anna Banana. For the moment I won’t be perfing so I will go with the drawn version I made in Illustrator. I know it’s the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese calendar but in the Republic of Whimsy it’s the Year of the Cheshire Sun!
