An artistamp (a portmanteau of the words "artist" and "stamp") or artist's stamp refers to a postage stamp-like artform. It is similar to a Cinderella stamp in that it is not valid for postage, but it differs from a forgery or a bogus stamp in that (typically) the creator has no intent to fool any post office or collector of stamps. (However, depending on how the stamp is used, it may be difficult to distinguish artistamps from local post stamps.) The artistamp is intended to be a miniature artwork which can depict or commemorate any subject its creator chooses.

This is my addition of an artsy "portrait" to the KORE stamp, it is faux stamp. The symbol for ELTA (Greek Post) in the upper right corner is Hermes, messenger god, swift and fast? Deliver de letter de sooner se better :)

Statue of KORE from Merenda, Attiki, original actual 65 cent/EURO stamp. Digital pic a bit too dark, barely visible "ELTA" sign.

Artemis stamp with my blue profile addition, faux stamps.

Artemis, Greek Goddess of the Hunt, from the Eastern Frieze of the Parthenon..and a digital pic of me in front of "POST" sign. These are actual, usuable 52 cent/EURO stamps. Original edition.

Ok, good people, I am relatively VERY new at this making of artistamps. My first attempts were just handmade-scanned add-to-an-old-stamp image. But this week in Thessaloniki, we have the International Trade Fair and "ELTA", the Hellenic Post (Greek Post) has a booth set up in one of the pavillions. At an expensive rate, we can have our photo taken and added to 10 REAL postage stamps. The digital resolution is a bit poor for the original stamps, but then I have scanned and added new portrait images, making faux stamps. I think the "artistamp bug" has bitten me! Let me post them and see what you think.
