Asemic Music Score

The microtonal people have a continual problem of how to do notation for their music and "sounds," so they turn to asemic notation. Here's an example of that, in a link: …Continue

"Franis. I don't know if you still have interest in converting images to fonts but there is a free program called Font Forge. It is, however, at least for me, difficult to learn. Y'r ol' Bud, Fike"

P.O.Box owners

A post office box (often abbreviated P.O. Box or PO Box) is a uniquely-addressable lockable box located on the premises of a post office station. Why do you have one? What do you do with it. What is the advantage? How does yours look like?

Programs converting Asemic Characters to Truetype fonts

Wondering if people in this group have any recommendations for (hopefully free!) programs out there that convert our stunning characters into truetype fonts? (I'm using the 2014 Long-Term-Support version of Ubuntu Linux and Win7 operating systems, but I know some people here use MACs.)Anyone here have suggestions what programs asemic artists would find useful in font design? Previously, I've used a website (I think it was to convert my own…See More

Mail-Artist since:
...Mail artist since I was a kid. I was always decorating envelopes & presents, no matter what was inside.
My Website (without http://): New blog at: http://myartworkjournal....
Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
I have been involved in Mail Art for eons, merely because I like to send my friends cool stuff.

There is a purpose for me being here. Mail art is a chance for me to make stuff to uncover what I might want to do, merely because I want to do it. I've been a commercial artist for so long, that I have forgotten what sort of art that I might make - only for myself. When you are an artist for hire, you do what you imagine the customer has indicated that will please them. I have allowed the environment, the purpose, the people - everything outside of myself - to determine what and why I make art for most of my life.

Now I don't have to do that. I can make whatever pleases me. This is a cool thing. However, since I have so little sense about what pleases me, I have found that it works for me to have a purpose.

So I have decided my purpose can be - to send art to you.

Yes, and thank you!  I just got it (I don't get to my PO Box every day - more like once a week since I have my husband pick it up for me - he still works on the UC Berkeley campus so it's more convenient for him - I am retired now). I really like your postcard. :D

I'm glad you got it already!  I laminated the piece with Avery clear self-laminating sheet material.  I really like that stuff, though it's not altogether cheap.  I have always loved postcards and wanted mine to feel and look like professionally printed ones... or as close as I could get without becoming a commercial printer. ;)  3M also makes a good laminating sheet, even thicker, but Avery combines the best overall price with a satisfactory effect and ease of use (albeit a little tedious).

Sounds like a great place to live!  We thought about moving to Hawaii many times because I feel so healthy there (the climate suits me) but we are settled here in California (job and family wise) so we just visit from time to time. ;)  Yes, it's a fun place, IUOMA - the best thing is the variety!  So many people from so many different backgrounds and locations, styles and sensibilities.  I love it.

Thanks for your friendship, Franis - where's Kamuela by the way?  I've been to Hawaii but only on Maui a couple of times.  I absolutely adore the climate there - I feel healthy as a teenager when I'm in the islands. :D
