MANHOLE COVER LOVERS

There must be billions of them in the world. We pass them every day. We walk on them. We do not take any notice of them. They are heavy, and usually made of cast iron. They come in many different shapes, sizes and patterns. Look, and you will find them everywhere.

What are they? MANHOLE COVERS, that provide access to local service systems such as water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications.

Post photos of any interesting ones you find here.

Thanks again, Alan. In my days, there wasn't a supermarket in Wivenhoe -- just the Co-op, around the corner from Belle Vue Rd (have they put a Blue Plaque on no 4 yet?) and a few small shops. Keep on Covering-ing! Val

The Bennell ironfoundry used to be on Greenstead Road, Val, where Tesco is now. That cover is on East Hill. I looked in Belle Vue Road and there aren't any near number 4, sorry. They haven't put up the blue plaque for you yet either.
