i noticed 2 on a short walk and wished I had brought my small art supply bag as it contains 2 bare crayons red and black to make "rubbings" of embossed , interesting surfaces. This is near home so tomorrow I want to make this my artist date as I am practicing the artist's way by julia camer0n. These will make super neat rubbings as they even had words on them in bold type print!

Great idea!

Rubbings of manhole covers from 2021, TanushreeV in California, she sent these:

and the metal detail by Silvia DuBois:

Can you tell us, please, Stephanie, how to best make rubbings (and advice on how not to get run over while doing so!)? Thanks, Val

Just put a piece of copy paper on top of the piece you want and use the side of the crayon and rub and keep your eyes and ears open for cars there ought to be more than enough options that you should not do them on the highway just city streets...lol....
