Hi C.C.,
I lived on Sutter St. between Jones and Leavenworth and later moved basically about one block straight up the steep hill to Bush St. and that wasn't easy. Carried everything by hand because it was so close. Ugh! After that I moved accross the Bay to San Leandro. Lot of SF memories. More actually than Berkeley even. One other Berkeley memory though (you had me thinking about this all day). Remember "Top Dog"? I think it was on Durante, but not certain. That was always so cheap and yummy and crowded. And the big Theater on Shattuck, before they chopped it up into a bunch of little theater rooms? Same with the California. Also the Grand in Oakland and the Alexandria and the Golden Gate Theater in SF. Those monstrous Theaters were awesome! Ever go to the Paramount in Oakland? Wow! One of my first jobs was to exchange all the Ushers uniforms to almost all the movie theaters (Syufy and United Artists and Pussycat and most of the independents) in the Bay Area, which was almost all of them. So I saw all the great theaters (the crummy ones too). I had the keys to all of them (huge rings of keys, one for each day of the week)and would go into them starting at 5 AM right up to about noon, but boy, walking into those giant old theaters with only a single flashlight was creepy and cool and the dressing rooms were always way in the back, upstairs, behind the screen area. Kinda spooky. No wonder I live in Heebee Jebeeland! Test
Hi again,
I didn't say I lived in Berkeley, my best friend did, I actually lived in SF at the time or in San Leandro later on. My best friend lived in Berkeley and we had a sound studio there. I had been hanging out in Berkeley a lot of the time since the sixties though. Peoples Park and all that stuff. "Welcome to Prague" sign still in my head after all these years. Saw lots of cool shows there too at the Keystone, Berkeley Square, Greek Theater, Bears Lair and hung out at the Radio station (can't remember the call letters, but usually a little party goin on there late at night). Okay , thats enough. Gotta get off this memory lane before I bore you to tears. Also, you do look familiar to me too, just for the record. Test
Hi Carla.
If Cody's Books is still on the corner, then across the street and to the left about 2 doors. There was a sort of apartment building house with some strange, troubled, loud people in the front part of the lot that was eventually torn down. The building behind that, an older, more interesting bigger apartment style building stood. That was where we held court quite often for nearly a decade. Made a lot of serious noise there. Right behind that was the funny shaped white Church (forgot what kind). Bought a lot of beer from Fred's liquor store on Telegraph and a lot of records at Rasputin's and hamburger's and pizza at Kip's and great food all over that place! I haven't thought about that city for a long time. I loved Berkeley, it was so great back then. Have no idea how it is now. Anyway, I do remember that mail call you mentioned, but I don't remember participating (Sorry)! Thanks for your note and something will be in the mail for you very soon. So great to meet you Ms. Cryptic. Cheers, Test.

Hello Carla, I see your Berkeley address and wow, does that bring back memories for me. My best friend had a studio which we used constantly in the late 70's through the 80's on Haste St. a couple of doors down from Telegrapgh Ave. Made a considerable amount of experimental music there and it was our headquarters for many happy and glorious years. Not sure if that building is still there or not. If I am not mistaken, weren't you the author of the notion: "Black as a yellow shoe"? I thought that was pretty cool. Forgive me if I am wrong here (it has been a while). Anyway, I am going to send you something and I hope you shall respond in like fashion. I would be honored. Nice to be your friend. Test
