ISLAND 2014 from “Neverland” to “Utopia”… Mail-Art International Call

Utopia is one of the most common concepts of happiness of people of all races, cultures and religions in one or another form. Be it Christianity with its concept of Heaven and paradise called The Garden of Eden waiting ready for the faithfuli, Norsemen Asatru with mighty Asgaard floating among clouds with its halls of Valhalla prepared for the bravest warriorsii, Muslims with Jannah – their own paradise designed to be a resting place for martyrsiii, and Sir Thomas More’s original Utopia – behind the façade of a fictional island in the Atlantic Ocean, there was a perfect socio-politico-legal system, where everyone would live a joyful life, undisturbed by flaws of the tainted “outside” worldiv.

J. M. Barrie created Neverland to be a place that would be a land of escapists, daydreamers, children that never wanted to grow up and people seeking immortalityvi. In Neverland one would not have to listen to parents, do his/hers homework, clean his/hers room, follow rules set by adults. [Neverland – the concept of Utopia, cit. alicethepooh]

PARTECIPATION: FREE. Everyone is welcome to take part in the project.

THE ARTIST IS NOT REQUIRED TO PAY

Technique: free (photography, painting, drawing, etching, collage, mail art boxes, artistamps, rubber stamps, mixed techniques, etc.). No organic materials, such and food, plants, etc.

Type: original art, no photocopies.

SIZE : free.

Postcards will not be returned. No fee. No sale. No return. No Jury. They will become part of the “IL TEMPO LA STORIA” collection at the ARTEA CREATIVITY LAB, ROME. Place the envelope in your personal data, the title of your work, contact information, and possibly a brief biography and some artistic references.

Deadline: September 30, 2014

The exhibition opening will be October 31, 2014 at “Accademia Belle Arti di Catania” – Sede Vanasco – Via Vanasco 9 – 95129 Catania.

The works will be preserved also as a heritage in ROME – Artea Creativity Lab and later will be exhibited in art galleries, museums and elsewhere will be required to spread this kind of art form and to promote the artists. Please send your works to:
