This month was spent on creating a print edition of 100 bookmarks for “Infiltrating the Library System - Bookmarks X11 2014-2015” project, curated by the Centre for Fine Print Research, UWE. Influences on my work for this project were buddhist sutras and taoist texts. I used the block printing technique and confined the colour range to black and red. The piece explores the relationship between the Author and the Reader as an exchange of energy, expressed as a wave. Visit the exhibition at Bookmarks: Infiltrating the Library System

I have also been focussing on tonal contrast and negative space in composition. The aim was to look at solutions to background problems by filling the compositional space with clearly defined shapes that have clearly defined relationships. Interestingly this allowed other compositional rules to be broken, eg. the rule that shapes must not kiss, but either be isolated or overlapped. In Triangulation the space in the centre of the three spheres is created by the three spheres kissing, but it makes the composition more interesting and links this space to the series of triangles created by the angled cubes. In addition, further triangles appear between the intersections of the spheres and the plane of the surface they rest on.
