April 2019

A sunny spring day and I am back outside drawing from nature. This sketch was done with Lyra Grey tone crayons and a 2B pencil. I like the subtle colours the crayons introduce as it provides more interest than using graphite alone.

September & October 2018

I have spent September and October preparing my fine art photographic images for the collaborative artists show "Tiled".  Each artist has provided a 20cm x 20cm image with the intention that all images be hung together as in a wall of tiles.  If you are in London at the start of November, drop by the gallery, it would be great to see…

April 2018

This month I have been practicing drawing the human form. I have drawn these two female forms in a strong pose and by joining them together, have created a third entity; a two headed, four limbed mythic being, almost like a goddess guarding the gates of the…

March 2018

More practice at drawing still life this month. I arranged the fruit, took a photograph, then used the photograph as the drawing reference. This allowed me to use a different view point and introduce some dynamics to the composition by introducing a diagonal…

January 2018

I am going to try some figure work this year.  Here's a small study that explores the interconnectedness of shapes as a possible theme. I like the close-cropping and the way the body is cradled by the soft furnishings.

December 2017

Inspired by the short days and brilliantly coloured sunsets of the Northern hemisphere in winter, I hope this colour sketch brings brightness to everyone's New Year!

The Pelicans of St James' Park, London rendered in the brightest of purples. A regal procession across the lake.

September 2017

This small tonal drawing is of the three pelicans of St James's Park, London. The pelicans are so perfectly synchronised that when they swim, one behind the other, they create a perfect line. I am going to try and develop this drawing into a painting.

August 2017

I am now able to walk as far as the carp pond in Kenwood, London.  Early this morning a white and grey heron flew over the water and settled in one of the trees overlooking this pond. The many branches stripped of their leaves, suggests that this is a regular fishing post for this beautiful…

July 2017

I haven't posted anything for the last five months as I've been fighting breast cancer. Chemotherapy sapped my will to draw, but this month I was able to get out and about with my sketchpad and did this small sketch of the National Gallery, London. I was pleasantly surprised with my level of control over the pencil. I am hoping to do more drawing…
