View the Album From Out of Somewhere

Using stencilling and printing techniques I created three pieces of mail art inspired by the legend of Theseus and the Minotaur. These will be mailed out to fellow mail artists from the International Union of Mail Artists (IOUMA). I explored cut-outs and negative space to create strong images from the myth and used them as stencils. The stencilling technique recalls the techniques used by cave artists and a trance-like effect was created by over-printing the stencilled images with marks from the explorations into proto-texts from last month. The colour range was black and red on white card. The pieces will be mailed as they are – no envelopes - with the sign of the labyrinth added to the reverse of the image alongside the stamp.
