Trashpo from Budapest

This great piece arrived from TOrma Cauli. I love the combination of the very modern digital background and the sort of primitive trashpo. All this world class trash just reminds me of how similar life is no matter where we live. I always imagine other countries being so different, but Torma using pieces of a flier most likely advertising some service shows that we all behave the… Continue

Moontrash from Lisa Iversen

This piece arrived in a beautiful box. She says she found this crushed can tucked inside a tree. I think she must have sanded this down to get the sheen on it that does make it look lunar. It's mounted on a 5 by 7 or so posterboard and looks to be leaping out. I really love this thank you sooo much Lisa! very elegant trashpo--so classy I think it's more of… Continue

Love vs. the ego from Richard Canard

a departure for Richard who has always sent me text up until now. But it's just as thought provoking. I take this as the buddhist sense of death to the ego

The World is a Town - GOTIJ (why not!) Thom (USA) , ROB (Australia), Guido Vermeulen (Belgium) and Bernd (Belgium)

I think Thom is a Keeper of Words. He guards the gate to their destruction.  Most of you who know Thom know that he is a Lexical logophile.  At the pen of Thom these separate units become flowing sentences that build to a river of beauty. The World is a Town is no different. …

Poems from the Past - from Nancy Bell Scott

Recently there have been several great blogs about mail art related to Memories and Memory. The piece that Nancy is sending me breathes the same air of Reminiscence. It comes with a wonderful letter, relating sweet childhood memories, freewheeling days at her grandparents' farmhouse. A child's universe, a lost world, but how come ever so present in the adults…

Roland Halbritter: a dark surprise

Well, it's dark, but with a colorful (and Spanish) interruption: Still, the black by itself speaks. As if this weren't mysterious enough to receive--including the fact that I've had no previous contact with the obviously whimsical Mr Halbritter--the other side took much longer to understand:…

Another card from Jon Foster (yay)

Very interesting mix of images: Jon made this card apparently using one of his taping methods that have helped turn me into a big fan of his work. The ground is a postcard of an Ansel Adams photograph at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in Arizona, but we see that photo only at the upper left and the bottom left and right corners. Jon contributed most of what is seen, and the… Continue

"Advice Dismissed" from Kerri Pullo Ryan

Beautiful piece by Kerri: "Advice Dismissed" caught my eye when Kerri put it up with her photos, and I was delighted to find it as the first mail art she has sent me. Kerri, when she uses words, makes them melt into the rest of the art, just as the photo does. The organic, wounded red shape around the photo expresses well the ambiguity of her subject. Very nice work, Kerri, and I… Continue

Domestic Trashpo

But wait… There’s more.  Domestic mail artists have been prolific with their artwork, too, proving that Americans produce garbage just as colorful as their overseas brethren.

From Marcia Cirillo, in Texas, a treasure map to where some fantastic Trash might be located for our next trash treasure hunt…

From Michael Orr in Cornpone land (that’s…

International Trashpo

Mmm, Mmmmm, Mmm! We’ve been having fun with Lady Ga-Garbajo’s Group of Trashpo enthusiasts. And I have recently received some spectacular examples from abroad (..a WHAT??!!) I mean some friends from international locales:

From the Haptic Werewolf, Erni Bär, some vegetarian bratwurst et frites. I love how the card says “UHU,” which I’m sure is text phone lingo…

GOTIJ Dean Marks destroyed mail art :-(

Look carefully. Around the Taj Mahal there is a circular glue mark. sob, sob, sob.

It's gone, it's gone...the Eiffel tower that pounced around in a bubble is gone! sob, sob, sob.

Dean and I worked together on some mail art in a little Paris Cafe. and he made this card for me.

But the postal machine monster ate the Eiffel Tower!!!

Well, happily, there…

GOTIJ Haptic Werewolf, large size collage AND sandpapers for sandpo!

It is called "SCREAM", but too many greens and pastoral scenes to make me scream. Great collage from Herr Haptic Eri, and a surprise treasured besides the collage:
