Wonderful sneakiness

David Stafford sent me this painting after a chance encounter in the chat room here. He asked me for suggestions on what to make for someone, whose name I cannot now remember. I tossed off the suggestion of a goat-headed woman holding a leashed cactus. Little did I know what was about to happen. I was surprised and delighted when this gem showed in my mail. Thank you David!…

A Blog Post for Lesley Magwood-Fraser. Ceramic Asemic.

Unmailed Art received Second Week of March 2011

I received this very interesting asemic  piece from Lesley which includes fragments of ceramics, frottage and pictograms.

Les said the ceramic pieces were part of a broken plate she had made, so although not strictly asemic in origin, they have  now been ascribed that meaning by the artist. This adds an interesting…

Katerina's Windmills of your Mind

Lucky me now I have 2 Windmills from Katerina. Today's mail is a bright colourful rendition - Katerina I love the onion and lemon prints (very Mediterranean!) what a clever way to make instant circles and spirals, I have never thought of that. And the bright yellow string and little windmill stamps all made me very happy. Thankyou dear girl.… Continue

Received from Diane Keys, USA--Branch of the Facial Nerve

Diane works with various paper scraps individually like puzzle pieces until they connect and merge as a whole, and the finished composition becomes quite remarkable. The anatomical references and the colors of this particular piece give the impression of an abstract biology lesson--very nice.…

A Blog Post for Marie Wintzer. No. 79. Regular Fortune.

Mail Art Received 1st Week of March 2011

In full understanding that she is just the messenger, when Marie told me she was getting me an uncookie fortune, I confess I was a trifle nervous, bearing in mind the No. 63 of a fellow IUOMAian.   Lucky it was just a regular, very vague fortune…

BUT its beautiful home, that was no regular place – it is a…

The Windmills Of Your Mind Collaborative Book - Katerina Nikoltsou

The Windmills Of Your Mind is a collaborative art book with various interpretations of the eponymous song. The idea originated with Katerina mailing this booklet to Cheryl, and it all started rolling.

The windmills of Katerina's mind are colorful and sparkling and I imagine them twirling incessantly. But then she includes those quiet and slow old windmills in beautiful USA stamps, and I now know that those are equally important. Oh yes they are... Lyrics are printed on the fragile…

Nihon Buyo booklet - for Katerina Nikoltsou

I had big plans for this booklet but the paper turned out to crumble when folded, which is fine for the vintage effect, but still, so damn difficult to handle. It still want to use it though...

Cheryl Penn's Windmills of your Mind

Lucky me! I was presented today with Cheryl's contribution to this project at our printing workshop that we are both attending. No postal service quirks to worry about with mail friendly hand delivery! Cheryl manages to cover all aspects of issues discussed in the various mail art groups in her windmill mind - asemics, haptics, vispo and layers on layers of paint, text and collage - such a clever girl!…

My new Mail Art book

I made this concertina book with signatures in Cheryl Penn's bookmaking workshop last year and decided to use it to store mail art that I have received from Karin Greenwood and Elize Rowan, 2  of my South African friends. As in my last mail art book that I made to store Cheryl's mail (see my photos of An Extraordinary Correspondence with Cheryl Penn) I used old drawings of mine cut up as the "pockets" to hold the work. As I dont sew or have a machine I stapled the pockets on....
