Amy Irwen: $13.50 poorer, but $1M richer as a Mail Art Morphing

At last, here it is, the Amy Special.  But it didn't arrive this was.  It took hard work and lots of money to pull this one off. First the money.  A whooping $13.50 to send this to Paris.  To put this in real USA terms, that's the same as buying two Whooper Meals…

Paper Tams free Mail Art class at the Miami Pen Show, July 16, 2016

I've been researching mail art blogs for the past several weeks. Many of the sites I've found are a bit too abstract for my taste and ability but found a happy medium at Paper Tams (http://www.papertams.com/). I just learned that she will be conducting a free Mail Art class at the Miami Pen show.

Please share your favorite Mail Art artists, blogs or events here.

Oregonians' boekie comes home

I sent out this little boekie to 4 folks who'd joined the Oregonians group: Terry Ownby, Maryann Battaglia, Finley Union, and Pairie Kittin, who is an Oregonian Emeritus because she's moved across the river to Vancouver, Wa. I love the things everyone did to it!…

Ray Johnson: The Art of Friendship

"If an unsophisticated person without malice, asked Ray a question, he might well answer it simply, but if a person were twisted with too many prior assumptions that interfered with honest immediacies, Ray was likely to reply at a tangent that did not intersect with or combine with the question. He had the courage of his style in circumstances which…

Ray Johnson: Windows & The Art of Friendship

"If Ray’s collages were like windows, they were like windows in the sense of openings which permitted contingencies to surface in walls of unresponsive and objective indifference. In order for him to preserve indeterminate immediacies, he improvised upon whatever happened to pop through a door or to appear in a window.…

All Aboard the Kalakala! It's the END OF THE CITY!!

I think this might be my first mail art piece received from Mike Dyar of San Francisco. Anyway, it was a little bit startling and wondrous to receive in my post box. It's very minimalist—a testament to what one can do with a simple shingle of corrugated cardboard—and yet...sort of holds significance for me.

That little blue…

Artists' Book by Frieder Speck

I love how this wonderful book by Frieder arrived in a very modest envelope. The surprise was all the greater when I found what was inside: an accordion-style book with hard covers, size:13 x 16cm, monoprinting, drawings and poems (written on a typewriter). Love it!…

Horsing Around with Carina's Horse Mail

Super cool self-made envelope arrived from Carina Granlund in Finland, filled with cute and humorous fare. She included two newspaper comic strips from a Scandinavian newspaper. They appear to be annotated with dates (1956 and 1957) so perhaps they are clippings from a more classic era of cartooning!…
