Emma Goldman Aquatic Society

couple of years ago I joined the Temescal Aquatic Masters, a swim team of cool and crazy people who swim at 5:30 in the morning in an outdoor pool here in Oakland CA.  When the team formed 35 years ago, they wanted to call themselves "The Emma Goldman Aquatic Society". US Masters Swimming told the team that they couldn't name themselves after a radical feminist and…See More

Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
I began doing mail art in college with my friends. It was fun to get postcards in the mail when we were at home during the holidays. As we got older, we stopped exchanging mail. Later, I started making greeting cards and eventually taught myself to make pop up cards. I send them out to friends and family, but it is a one way street. I am excited about joining IUOMA so that I can participate in an exchange with other artists.
My Mail-Adress (snail and/or E-mail)
I had to close my PO BOX. Ping me if you want to exchange mail art and I will get you my new address. Thanks!

O my gosh Denise! Thank you for the stunning 3D ATC! Everything about it just works so beautifully, from the postage stamp to the reeds "growing" outside the frame. And thanks for the lovely note and envelope, too. Wonderful to hear from you again!

Hi Denise -- I'm glad you starting making art again! Thank you so much for the fabulous ATC. It is a little different for you, but still has your trademark imagination and precision. And I love the little bits that came with it!

Anatomy of a pop up

Posted on October 19, 2019 at 4:04pm 2 Comments

As many of my friends know, I love pop ups.  Here is a short post about my process.

I start by creating a mock up with plain white card stock.  Sometimes I scribble some color on it in pencil in order to help me visualize the final piece.

Next, I take careful measurements and make notes.…

Burned Piano

Posted on October 19, 2019 at 3:43pm 0 Comments

One of our local print newspapers published some adverts from the early 1900's.  Some were quite curious and fun to use in collage.  Imagine all of the fun things one could do with a burned piano!
