An artistamp (a portmanteau of the words "artist" and "stamp") or artist's stamp refers to a postage stamp-like artform. It is similar to a Cinderella stamp in that it is not valid for postage, but it differs from a forgery or a bogus stamp in that (typically) the creator has no intent to fool any post office or collector of stamps. (However, depending on how the stamp is used, it may be difficult to distinguish artistamps from local post stamps.) The artistamp is intended to be a miniature artwork which can depict or commemorate any subject its creator chooses.

Spanish-Italian designer Pablo Dorigo Sempere has extracted algae polluting the Venetian Lagoon and used it to make paper postage stamps for the Italian city.

Dorigo Sempere made the product to showcase the qualities and ingredients of algae paper.

Otherwise known as Shiro Alga Carta, this material was first produced in 1992 by Venetian paper company Favini . . .  [for more, click on the link at the top]

Thanks Ficus and Bradford for the links to the faux postage and Artistamps of Donald Evans in the atlasobscura. As a newcomer to creating artistamps, I found it to be very useful and timely.

At the same site (AtlasObscura), there is an article from 2017 that features the Artistamps of Donald Evans:
