There must be billions of them in the world. We pass them every day. We walk on them. We do not take any notice of them. They are heavy, and usually made of cast iron. They come in many different shapes, sizes and patterns. Look, and you will find them everywhere.
What are they? MANHOLE COVERS, that provide access to local service systems such as water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications.
Post photos of any interesting ones you find here.

Thank you for your invitation, Val! Despite of the fact that manhole covers (putdeksels in Dutch) are hard to send via mail (and probably will cause the sender a large amount of people who fell into the hole and want/threat to prosecute the mail artist) I think this a matching theme here at IUOMA. I noticed that several mail artists are fascinated by manholes, and also I love to see photos of ‘putdeksels’ from all-over the world. (And of course we can send newly made manholecoverdesigns to each other).
Welcome to this new Group, MANHOLE COVER LOVERS.
It's part of my ongoing 'Urban Landscape Project' in which I take photos of what are usually neglected or ignored parts of my immediate environment, such as doors, shutters, lampposts, street lights, and, of course, mail-boxes -- all part of the great 'open-air metropolitan art gallery'.
Post photos of any interesting Manhole Covers -- round, square or rectangular; small or large; old or new -- that you come across.
Here are some examples:
