Glad the poster etc. arrived. Here's a short video the library staff made -

Glad you enjoyed it Jennifer. There is a lot to see - we keep spotting things we'd put in the exhibition and forgotten about ourselves!   We had to leave a lot of good stuff out too which is a shame. They promised us more cabinets but they didn't materialize!  Was the bowler hat shaped post box in place? Did you get a chance to play with the rubber stamps?

I saw your exhibition today, Michael! I was stunned! I could not believe just how much there was to look at.

Because I only heard about mail art a few months ago, this was perfect for me - instant history, and an art-equivalent of putting names to faces. Can't believe what I've stumbled into.

I think it will not be long before we will be using plain old 'England'.

I have artistamps from the 'Disunited States of America' so maybe we could follow suit . . . or should we be banging the drum and emphasise the 'United'?

I now find it really difficult to write 'United Kingdom' in my address! I have the urge to routinely now write 'United (?) Kingdom'. Now I say that, I wonder why I don't just do it.

Two brilliant answers giving me new perspectives and plenty to think about.  I wonder how the rest of the world think of us (if at all)?  It seems that U K is the one to go for (as I already do) both pedantically and romantically though I am determined to try 'Ukogbania' as soon as . . .

Officially we have one the longest names of all world states; "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", which I take to mean the United Kingdom (of the two kingdoms England&Wales + Scotland) plus N.I. But who has big enough envelopes for that?

Just 'England' or 'Scotland' are unambiguous but not fully correct for those with literal minds, UK or GB should be enough but doesn't it theoretically exclude Northern Ireland? So I advocate the term 'Ukogbania' to include everyone.

I tend to use UK quite a bit on my address as it seems succinct and "yoo-kay"  seems rather quaint and pointless and does not denote a country so much as a couple of forlorn letters floating in sea of numbers and initials. Floating off to where one wonders in these troubled times?
