CHAPTER 2 OF MIM'S BORING POSTCARDS

The story continues.......

6. McCauley Residence Hall

On the campus of Mercyhurst College, Glenwood Hills, Erie, Penn..'has living quarters for 142 students. the south wing of the lower floor is a student lounge, and the north wing houses a snack bar'

7. Antelope Pens, Forest Park Zoo, St Louis, Mo

A card postd in May 1942, and franked 'BUY DEFENSE SAVING BONDS AND STAMPS'.

The park covers 1,380 acres and includes lakes, lagoons, picnic grounds, a theatre and various sports facilities. 'The 73 acre Zoological Garden contains more than 1,900 maals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians.'

You have to look very hard though to see the antelopes on the left, and some other indeterminate beasties on the right.

8. Hammond Technical Vocational High School, Hammond Indiana.

Note the fire hydrant on the right.

9. Blue Ridge Parkway

'Autumn scene showing Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mountain. Altitude 5,694 feet, Western North Carolina'.

Does anyone know if there is a Grandmother Mountain?

10. First Lutheran Church, Albany, NY.

'Founded in 1644. Oldest continuos Lutheran congregation in North America. New edifice dedicated Sept 1954'.

11. Approach to Whiteface Mt Memorial Highway

'Castle and upper portion of parking area. Kodochrome by Henry Cobb Shaw.'

We're so fortunate to still have the internet, to stay connected. Next year, I've decided will be the travel year. Yes, after this plague, hopefully, next year, I'm going to come see all of you. Even Carbondale, maybe.

One day, someday, I will be able to get out and get to the post office to send a few boring postcards I got from Private world in Arizona:

they are "vintage" :-)

26.03.20 Dare Mister Valentine Mark Herman, What a terrific  batch of so-called "Boring Postcards" from Ms. Mim. No. 1 "The Traveler's Palm in Florida" is however what I would call exotic.--but No. 2 "Roadway Scene in the Heart of the Mountains----but it doesn't say which mountains" is my old haunt. ...that's my old school bus route thru Possum Hollow & that's Flat Apple Mountain Range in the background...fond memories......& No. 3.... I see tennis courts at the foot of the Beverly Hills Condos. ---which reminds me of a recent visit to my own hometown in Nawf Karolinah--- I saw that they had converted the old tennis courts into a skate park....very progressive on the part  my fellow  Southern Nors  & timely too--- as now the local kids can bust elbows & suffer concussions without having to play that ridiculous game of football. My older sister actually lives in that condo complex. It's up in the hollywood hills near Universal Studios above a freeway. She has beautiful views of L.A. from her balcony. And deer and other wildlife come down from the hill behind her building. She sent me a stack of those old cards recently when clearing out things.

But it's still quite boring.

CHAPTER 1 OF MIM'S BORING POSTCARDS

1. 'The Travelers Palm in Florida'

This was sent to NJ in 1953

2. 'Roadway Scene in the Heart of the Mountains'

The card was printed in Asheville, NC -- but it doesn't say which mountains.

3. Century Park Condominiums

'Our resale record is excellent. We're familiar with the current market, and when you deal with P&M (of beverly Hills) you're assured of getting the best price for your consominium.'

4. 'John H Kerr Dam'

This one is from the US Army, Corps of Engineers. The Dam & Reservoir are in Va and NC. 'This view taken from the left bank of the Reservoir shows the upstream face of the Dam and a portion of the Reservoir..which extends 39 miles upstream of the Dam, with a meandering shoreline perimeter of 800 miles and a w ater surface of 48,900 acres'.

5. 'Approach to the New Windsor Expressway, Poquonock, Conn

Extra points for identifying the year and make of the cars on the left, and double points for the one approaching from the right.

MY DAY IN BORING POSTCARDS.....

LOCKED -DOWN, TO KEEP MYSELF BUSY I STARTED THE DAY MAKING SOME LACE.....

Then I listened to some good old fashioned vinyl records;;;;;

Then it was coffee time......

Next, I said good-bye to my nearest'n'dearest....

And then, well, I couldn't face the rest of the day so went for a swim...
